What do you have on your patio doors/bi folds/French windows?

I have a kitchen diner with French windows to the garden. We’re a bit overlooked and want some privacy. It’s quite a big window.

Any ideas? (not curtains or voiles!)

We have roller blinds. They roll up out of the way and are the same colour as the walls -white - so are barely noticeable when rolled up. Basic roller blinds are quite cheap.

Thanks for reply. One big blind? Or one on each door?

We have bifolds with Vertical blinds. Our kitchen gets very hot sun on that window, and has a fair bit of stainless steel. The blinds are thermal resistant (or something) and silver. It looks great and is very practical. The only downside was when we had cruising toddlers that grabbed handfuls of blind and made them a bit crinkly. The slats mean we can control the intensity of the light and heat, from blackout up to fully open.

If you don't need the heavy duty blackout quality, then cream or white works brilliantly. You get privacy, but very little reduction in the light. We have them at the front of the house which is close to the road.

We have one big blind across both doors. We did deliberate over two blinds. We went with one because it was easier to fit (we fitted them ourselves) - no drilling into the RSJ at the top - it would look neater and less “bitty”, and it was cheaper. Disadvantage is you need to raise the blind to reach the door handle, but that didn’t bother us. We often only have them part lowered in the day to block out the sunlight from the computer screen, which lives in the kitchen, and at night they are fully lowered to give us privacy.

We have perfect fit Venetian blinds. Would probably go roller next time, but still perfect fit.

Perfect fit as you can open the doors without them flapping around.

We have no blinds or curtains but we do have a retractable awning. It’s mainly for shade as we are S facing at the back and have lots of glass, but it also helps with privacy. When it’s extended out the neighbours can’t look in, but we can still see our garden unlike with blinds or curtains.

Sorry too many “buts”!!

Thanks all. We get a lot of sun too so I need the blind as much for day as night. We have perfect fit Venetian on the other window so that might work.

I like the idea of an awning too.
