Panicking I won’t like the radiators

That we just ordered for £850 🤦🏻‍♀️

Screenshot pic attached but more on the link
www.bestheating.com/milano-windsor-metallic-bronze-horizontal-traditional-column-radiator-triple-column-various-sizes-83263

It’s a 1930s house and large front room with huge square bay window and a fireplace, to give the idea. The walls either side of the fireplace will eventually have built in media cabinet/shelving above tv in the alcove between window & fireplace, & other side of fireplace about 3m more of wall will be built in shelving/bookcase perhaps even with a slidey ladder to reach the top shelves 😊 just to give you an idea of the style of room. Area by the window will be sofas/TV and area the far end of the room will be bookshelped & eventually a small baby grand piano. Radiators under the window & far end wall opposite. Solid wood light oak flooring.

Not agreed on overall colour scheme yet - I want green or purple, OH wants blue, we may agree on jade or teal. It won’t be white and greige, put it that way Grin. My style is somewhat electric and more is more. OH tones me down.

Anyway due to factors about getting flooring repaired after rewire & radiator piping moved before that, we have to get the radiators sorted first. I don’t want white, I liked the idea of funky modern purple radiators but DP didn’t, he wanted fussy ornate cast iron, we agreed on steel column radiators, I favoured metallic copper versions of what we have ordered, runners up were ‘anthracite’ or raw lacquered metal but in the end we went for these metallic bronze ones after hours of debating pictures and feeling we needed to make a decision to get them ordered.

What do people think? I worry that they’re not going to actually look metallic and more just shiny brown. But we agreed them over the metallic copper version as it was still interesting but more subtle, and we thought would go with any of the various colour options being considered for the room, without being too distracting.

I think they're lovely but can't imagine them going with the colours you've mentioned for your walls. They'd look nice with navy or emerald green.

Lemonylemony · 15/11/2020 09:37

ECLECTIC, not electric. Although electric style sounds interesting.

Copper will look fabulous with jade or teal.
Shiny brown will be okay too. It's more in keeping with the style of the house so I don't think they'll look wrong at all.
Whether or not you like them is another matter and we can't help with that bit. Grin

Haha Grin you’re not wrong, I’m second guessing myself here, never made such long-lasting decor decisions before and worrying that compromising just means you get a watered-down version that doesn’t work as well.

These are screenshots pics of the close ups of the bronze and copper versions, and the copper mock-up shot. DP thought the copper was a risk of being ‘garish’. I still think it’s way prettier than the bronze and just trying to convince myself the bronze is more versatile and will still work 🤞🏻

The bronze is definitely more versatile and will go with your colours better (especially if they’re jewel tones - sounds lovely).

I too have always dreamed of a Beauty and the Beast style sliding bookshelf ladder so congrats on that!

PragmaticWench · 15/11/2020 10:07

I agree with your DH, the bronze are much nicer. Love them!

Lemonylemony · 15/11/2020 10:10

Just been doing some mock ups in a paint visualiser app and think I’m getting more persuaded on the bronze

This is with purple

Copper ones are not nice, you'd sit and look at them for years to come thinking 'I should have got the bronze'. The bronze is lovely

Searchesforhipbones · 15/11/2020 10:14

Definitely the bronze! They would fit nicely with so many other totally different decor schemes, so will be easier to refresh the room, or less polarising if you ever wanted to sell.

Lemonylemony · 15/11/2020 10:15

We can’t agree whether this colour is jade, teal or turquoise but we both agree on it Grin

OK, I’m less worried now.

Yes, beauty and the beast style ladder! It came to me when we were discussing these shelves, as there will be no way for me to reach the top if they are floor to ceiling without it. No idea how expensive they are though, this room is going to take years to come together probably!

Oh the copper is so garish!! The bronze is much classier.

RainbowRaine · 15/11/2020 10:16

100% the bronze

Lemonylemony · 15/11/2020 11:46

Told DP that mumsnet agreed with him on the bronze over the copper, btw. He seemed pleased with himself.

Thanks everyone, I’m persuaded! Just got to wait for them to turn up now :-)

Thank goodness you chose the bronze Grin. It's gorgeous btw.

ChasingRainbows19 · 15/11/2020 12:25

I love it! I’m like you, my OH calms me down a bit, we are currently using dark jewel colours too. I think the copper is too bright as nice as it is....

Redcrayons · 15/11/2020 12:30

Definitely the bronze, the copper is a bit too orange for me.

I’d be too busy swooning at your baby grand piano and slidey ladder to be noticing the radiators though.

ivfbeenbusy · 15/11/2020 12:41

I've seen the bronze ones installed before and they are much more of a Matt finish and not shiny at all - they are MUCH nicer than the copper ones.

Without being outing I work with interior designers a lot and have seen these bronze radiators with

Blue palettes
Green palettes
White/off white
Yellow palettes

I would say the bronze is more golden in colour they definitely suit period style home's/rooms.
The copper can look a bit......cheap/over styled

Lemonylemony · 15/11/2020 15:08

Thankyou @ivfbeenbusy, that’s really reassuring :-)

We’re pottering at the house this afternoon (can’t move in until flooring is done, hence panic about getting radiators sorted before floor). Sitting in the middle of empty room trying to imagine it.

@Lemonylemony, would you mind saying which paint visualisation app you were using? I'm really struggling with ideas for five new rooms...

altiara · 17/11/2020 10:32

Love the bronze!

Lemonylemony · 17/11/2020 13:16

Of course, it’s a Dulux one apps.apple.com/gb/app/dulux-visualizer/id404007106

Thank you!

LittleWingSoul · 17/11/2020 18:53

I thought the copper was orange when I saw them!

The bronze would work nicely with purple although have you considered a dustier slightly less Cadbury shade?

Lemonylemony · 17/11/2020 20:03

The Visualizer doesn’t have a massive amount of subtle choice tbh, it’s more just a general idea. When I come to choose actual paint colours I tend to go through about twenty zillion samples that you can barely tell apart before I commit Grin
