I’m thinking of painting the walls dark blue but what shall I do with this hideous splashback? A row of white titles? Something else? Thanks

Could you just prise it off the wall?

WhoUsedMyName · 15/11/2020 12:49

Have you seen what was there before that was?
You could be opening a can of worms it maybe hiding big gaps if your walls are out from work top to wall of that makes sense.
If your not changing work tops I would leave it as it matches them

Why is it hideous? Isn't it just an upstand?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 15/11/2020 16:30

Meh. I'm a bit hung ho. If I hated it as much as you do (and I would, it's not attractive) I'd prise it off the wall then decide what to do. If the walk is ok I'd sand it & paint down to the worktop. With a beading at the bottom
If necessary.

If the walk is a bit shite I'd put a row of tiles up. There are lots of nice, modern, blue tiles.

Or you could put glass.

Bloody phone. I'm sure no one is walking on the worktop!! & gung ho obviously!

Actually on my iPad it doesn't look as bad as on my phone, but depends how you feel about it!

Greenhairbrush · 15/11/2020 16:59

I don’t think it’s hideous, it’s just upstand.
It would look better with fresh paint above it, admittedly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/11/2020 19:05

It’ll look fine when you’ve painted, it matches the worktop doesn’t it?.

JuliaJohnston · 15/11/2020 22:44

I'm confused as to where the hideous splash back actually is, that just an extension of the worktop acting as an upstand??

JuliaJohnston · 15/11/2020 22:47

The paint colour, on the other hand...

TickledOnion · 15/11/2020 23:04

Maybe splashback was the wrong word. It is just an upstand but I didn’t realise the difference before. It’s only hideous because it’s warped and coming away from the wall due to moisture. And because I’m sick of the kitchen generally as so much of it is looking tired and grubby.

How has it got so damaged?. I’d tile it too.
