Colour ideas for north facing extention

My back room has been extended and a kitchen and floor put in and now I need to decorate. The old room is being skimmed after having the picture rails removed, hence the appalling mess.

I have no clue. All I can see is terracotta. Any ideas would be gratefully received! It is north facing so the old part of the room is dark. I'd like warm, bright and light because the floor is dark (dogs/kid/garden).

Ideally I'd like to tie the two spaces together with colour - which leaves me with the longest wall - but half that wall has alcoves/fireplace and the RSJs in it - I am stymied.

I love your floor, but I think it does limit you in terms of colour-choices. I think some kind of green would look good with it, but that probably doesn’t meet your brief of warm, bright and light!

How about a yellow leaning white? Or is that too dull? I have Farrow & Ball Wimborne white in my north facing living room and while it’s not the most exciting looking colour, it does have a nice warm “glow”

Actually I’ve just noticed the colour of your kitchen and I don’t think Wimborne white would go with that 🤔 Are the units beige, or cream?

Erm a sort of creamy beige. It's called cashmere. I was thinking of a sage green but need a warm accent or a warm white but yes I'm not sure a yellow white will do.

I like the colours used in this extension: www.farrow-ball.com/the-chromologist/inspiration/colour-and-light-with-velux

Wow that room's great, love the way they've left the RSJ bare. I didn't think of painting the velux roof a colour, that's food for thought, thanks!

The wall colour is Hay, which doesn't really look that colour in my house, but it might work for you. I love the bits of red and the India Yellow against the Inchyra Blue.

Not very exciting but my neighbour has cashmere units and has painted her walls white, it looks stunning. She's got a lime green sofa and accessories.

Thank you, I'll look those colours up.

White is my default if all else fails, at least it'll be light.
