Thoughts on these chairs

Hey I need some new chairs for the kitchen table. We have quite a minimal basic look.

What are your thoughts on these chairs in IKea?

Don’t know if they’ll just look horrible and cheap or if they look nicely minimal with our wooden table.

We had school chairs like that 30 years ago, oh the pain.

Sorry, but I think they're quite ugly.

I prefer some of the others

Leifarne
fanbyn
volfgang

If you want to stick with IKEA

But it's YOUR house, so all that matters is if YOU like them! (Well, your partner too I guess, maybe?!)

No thanks for being honest.

I don’t like any of those others oddly.

Have looks at loads of chairs at Dunelm and next etc. Just don’t like any...:hence wondering if I should just get basic ones.

Maybe dining chairs just aren’t that exciting 😂

How about this bench seat

We bought some basic white ones from IKEA which wouldn't fit together. I tried, as did my husband, dad and IKEA bloke. They have us a refund and we bought cheaper ones in John Lewis!

WellTidy · 08/11/2020 19:50

I have these around the table in the playroom. They are sturdy, comfortable and suit the purpose well. We have a white extendable table (also IKEA).

Ah thanks. I wondered about comfort as I am unlikely to be able to try as I’ll order online

I think the chairs and the bench both look v cheap. And the bench is pretty pricey.

Isolatedizzy · 08/11/2020 22:33

I have these from John Lewis, come in different colours, they are do comfortable!

I think they’re absolutely fine for the price. I don’t see them as a dining chair (not a dining room type feel to them at all) - as I said, ours are in the playroom. But it would be fine as a kitchen chair.

Neolara · 08/11/2020 22:49

I think because the backs are so low, they look as if they might be uncomfortable. I'm afraid the also remind me of school chairs.

Oh they very nice. Might take a look at why colours they have.

Yes I can see that now it’s been pointed out 😂

I like the industrial vibe, but whether you will pull it off depends on the rest of the room

This is what the white ones look like with a wooden table, not sure if useful:

I brought theses a couple of months ago and I'm really pleased with them. They're surprisingly heavy and very well made for £22, pretty comfortable as well.

Tvci5 · 09/11/2020 14:57

Forgot to say you have to put them together yourself but very easy to do

Thanks throw away that’s really helpful. I think I actually do like them now I’ve seen them in context. I like how simple they are....since I posted this I’ve looked everywhere and the dining chairs I have seen are either really fussy granny looking or modern ones I like are crazy expensive.

Thanks that’s useful to know because I was worried they might be flimsy

They do seem quite popular.

I have noticed with IKEA that their items resell for a decent % of the retail value. So if you do decide to change your chairs down the line, you would probably get a good amount of your money back.

MikeUniformMike · 12/11/2020 16:41

Benches tend to be uncomfortable for sitting on when eating.
