Hi all, we are buying a house with a relatively small garden (7 x 8.5m) that is 100% north facing and also backed by big trees. I am a light lover... (aren't we all), but have made the sacrifice to put us in the right area for schools, community etc.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has very reluctantly bought a north facing place with v v little sunlight at the back... and has spent some money to successfully improve the amenity? I'm hoping that in 5 years I will be earning again too and we can get a second mortgage to put glass walls on the back of the house and to landscape the garden. We are also already planning to knock through a supporting wall and put a new kitchen in.
Any idea of costs of (cheapest) floor to ceiling doors / windows, ceiling glass (I'm having ideas of bringing in light through roof and down through first floor into the ground floor? Any garden designs that work for children's play and a lovely place to look out at? V high quality artificial grass? I literally have NO idea of the cost of all these ideas but would hope in around 4-5 years we might be able to get a new mortgage to spend another £50-60K. Don't think you'd want to spend more than that on the property, given its small garden relative to people's requirements in the area.
Thanks so much all
