Does anyone know what shade and brand of paint Gok Wan used on his lovely living room (see photos) and or do you think this would work on a north facing living room on a much smaller less grand scale? Its a 1930’s semi with bay window. We currently have two brown/tan leather sofa’s in there a Tv, fireplace, mirror and cabinet (but wouldn’t be intending on painting furniture but may paint the mantle piece/fire surround. Thanks

Ideally something I can get at the local B&Q or online.

We have similar to the green in our living room from B&Q - just chose a premium Matt from the Valspar range (they have all the colours). Looks great - but it is west facing with high ceilings.

It's two different colours, blue and green. The green is a lovely dark teal, so look in that part of the colour wheel. It's still quite a cool colour, but if you balance it with warm furniture and accessories it could work in a north facing room.

According to some, painting north facing rooms a dark colour is exactly the right thing to do, so from that point of view you would be ok 🤔

The only thing I’m not sure about is what that type of colour would look like in a north facing room. The light in those rooms tends to bring out both blue and green tones, so it could be absolutely fine, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to get a tester to make sure the colour doesn’t end up looking really cold, rather than the cosy colour you have in mind.

I looked through Gok Wan’s Instagram and found some different photos of the room. It’s definitely teal, so something like Dulux Teal Tension looks like it could be a pretty good match, but I’m not sure what the finish is like on that paint. A really matt, chalky finish would work better than something with more of a sheen, so as long as the Dulux paint is pretty matt you should be ok. Alternatively, something like Farrow and Ball Vardo would definitely have the right kind of finish for this type of look.

I have a north facing living room and my main wall is Dulux Hawaiian Blue, like the blue in the picture. I love it. I considered Teal Tension but glad I went with the HB.

Thanks all. @supercee both of those colours you have suggested look absolutely fab and are just what I had in mind.

Have you any photos, what colour what are your other walls and how have you accessorised it please (which colours)? What would you say is the difference between those two shades please. As I am eager to jump in just can’t decide whether to be bold and paint the whole room that colour or whether to wimp out and just do the chimney breast wall. Thanks

The teal was just a little too green for me. My other walls are off-white and my colour scheme/rest of the living room items are are a little eclectic! I'll take a pic and send you it when I log onto my laptop - don't think I can send a photo privately via the ap?

supercee · 08/11/2020 09:14

@GooseberryTart it appears I can't attach a pic via DM, unless I'm being think.

If you send me your email I can send you a pic if you still want to see what it looks like.

*thick!

My living room is borth facing and painted dark olive green...I love it! As someone said above, dark colours in north facing rooms works. They're never going to look light and bright so best to go the other extreme, dark and cosy with lots of lamps etc. Have a few mirrors too and my piano is shiny black which bounces light around. Love gok's room!
