Sofa brand recommendations ?

Thinking of buying a new sofa within the next year or so.
Bought a reasonably cheap but very stylish sofa bed from maisonette du monde online 3.5 years ago and it really hasn't lasted - the back cushions have lost the will to live, and tbh the fabric just feels a bit cheap.

So next time I'm willing to spend a bit more (around 1k but less would be great) hoping that we'll get at least 8 years out of it. I've seen ones I like in IKEA, habitat, made.com and dfs. Don't necessarily need a sofa bed this time.

So mumsnetters - any brands you'd recommend or avoid ? How do IKEA sofas hold up- they're cheaper than the others - do they have longevity?

We have a made.com - lasted well and also one from John Lewis which is about 18 years old and still looking okay

SofaSofa. We are so pleased with ours.

We have a 3 seater Ikea Kivik, had it about 13 years, it's still in perfect condition and is very comfy. It was great when the kids were small as you can machine wash the covers.

We've also got a DFS tan leather sofa that we've had about 3 years. It gets a lot of use, is jumped on by the kids and dog and we've had no problems with it.

If you can stretch to James and Rose I would highly recommend them. The quality is impeccable and they are handmade in Lancashire (you could visit the workshop pre Covid). www.jamesandrose.co.uk

Barker and Stonehouse. Ours are really good quality.

I'm really lusting over a habitat one which comes in a lovely light olive green velvet.
Ikea have a very similar one for around half the price but I'm not so keen on their colour choices, how annoying.

Our first sofa (actually sofa bed) was from Argos 22 years ago and is still going strong with the odd recover! Our leather sofas are from Thomas Lloyd that are around 18 years old and could have been bought yesterday. We’ve recently bought from sofology and very happy albeit only had them a year or so.

DFS we made the mistake of buying in Harvey's once....18months later it looked awful! Our DFS sofas have lasted as long as we want them for...years!

DFS. Just passed on two sofas to dd. Leather. 13 years old and still looking like new. Have bought there again. Only changing sofas because dh has decided the original ones not good for his back since he slipped a disc. Changed style and now have recliners with the backs reclining separately to the foot part. Very happy with them.

Last two pairs of leather sofas came from John Lewis - they've lasted years and years!

Our cheap ikea ones just seem to last and last. Our sofa workshop leather one is now completely knackered after 8 years of use. The ones with natural fillings rather than cheap foam don't seem to last so well.

We have had a white leather sofa from Habitat for about 10 years and it’s still in very good condition although the leather has discoloured a bit from sitting on it with dark jeans etc- so I’d not recommend white leather but the sofa itself has been great.

More recently we bought a huge l shaped sofa from bo concept - pricey but we got a good discount in a department store event. It’s sooo supportive and comfortable- love it so far but can’t comment on longevity yet. We considered something with part feather filled cushions from somewhere like loaf, but this fully foam one feels much better and will stay looking good for longer I think. Depends a bit on the look you want I guess.

Our Sofa Workshop sofa and chair are about 12-13 years old, The structure and cushions are fab, but he fabric is quite tired. We'd recover, but that's nearly the same price as starting afresh :(

Barker and Stonehouse - my fave shop!
