Why is it so hard to find a good kitchen bin?

For the love of God, where can I find a normal one?

I don't want battery operated heat sensors that break after a month. I don't want lots of tiny compartments that fit one recyclable thing in each of them. I don't want clever interior design that traps and rips the bin bag. I don't want a cylindrical bin that is too narrow, so most things that go in the bin get wedged. I don't want retro dustbin-shaped bins where you have to unclip the thing with both hands and hold the lid with one hand before you can put a bottle top in it. I'd prefer not to take out a second mortgage for it. But I don't want cheap plastic either.

I just need a chunky, solid, rectangular metal pedal bin which opens easily, will agree to release the bin bag from its casing when full and can be wiped clean. 70-80L ideally.

Do they exist?

@dolphinpose that’s great, glad you found something.

Human bins are the best

PomPomWrong · 28/10/2020 09:30

I have the Brabantia Bo bin 60 L pictured. Bloody ridiculous price for a bin..however it's a thing of total beauty and has enormous capacity..so actually worth every penny, which is rare.

Not a swing inn. Our is always covered in old food

Ikea bins in the cupboard for us.

I see you've found one but I have a 30l Brabantia www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JFWR8FE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

Big enough to fit a decent amount in but not so big it takes ages to fill and gets smelly and the charity clothes bags fit it as bin liners 😂 I don't buy the special Brabantia narrow ones.

I love my large rectangle Simple Human bin. Not quite as big as you are looking for - 65 litres I think.

I love my joseph joseph totem bin.

Works really well for me - top section is general rubbish. Bottom section holds almost a weeks worth of recycling.

Having a decent kitchen bin has made a huge difference to my kitchen. I hope you find one that works for you.

Another vote for SimpleHuman. They periodically appear in TKMaxx / Homesense.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 04/11/2020 16:21

I just looked that Simple Human site. £250 for a talking bin??!

EmilySpinach · 04/11/2020 16:31

Ours doesn’t talk and it certainly wasn’t £250!

DancingQueen2018 · 04/11/2020 16:33

I have a Joseph and Joseph totem and love it!

People expect too much. Either big bins that pull out of a cupboard, or a cheap Wilko plastic bin that can be wiped. Currently have a pull out cupboard with two 2 35 litre bins, no problems. See Binopolis website for loads of choices.

I've got a semi circle metal Simplehuman one that ive had for years.
