We have a fairly large north facing bedroom (large tree outside) currently Dove grey but fancy a change and I am struggling with a colour scheme.

We could do a feature/ascent wall behind the headboard or paint the whole room one colour but can’t decide inspiration required?

We have a super king bed (nickel and crystal design headboard), beige carpet, cream/ivory neutral blinds, fitted floor to ceiling Ikea wardrobes (part mirrored/part wood) and painted wooden furniture (which could be repainted to fit in which will all be staying. See photos other wall opposite bay window not shown is blank.

Thanks

What colours do you like? I wouldn't be tempted to try and make it lighter - it's north facing so will always be darker than you'd like. Choose a colour you love and then find the right shade. I'm a fan of dark cosy colours, and I would also paint the ceiling a colour too. What about wallpaper? A lush forest or floral print perhaps with an emerald green ceiling maybe light pink. The world is your oyster!

And if you can be convinced to do dark walls (deep grey, navy, teal or green) consider doing the ceiling the same colour - it adds an illusion of height.

We are north facing and embraced the dark colours in the bedroom.
It a room to sleep in so I don't mind it being moody and dark

Sweetchillijam · 26/10/2020 17:21

Thanks both. I love rich jewel colours and absolutely love the green/teal ceiling colour on the first photo. Do you think we should maybe be more moderate and go for this colour as a feature/ascent wall where the headboard is with the other walls a neutral cream? Or go mad and paint the whole room this colour?
Also would a colour like this go with our existing wardrobe/blind/carpets and furniture as we can’t spend a fortune on luxury bohemian/lux accessories?

I really can’t decide but a bit scared to do it as don’t want to do it and hate it.
This morning I was thinking maybe sage or apple green, cream or coral colours looking at inspiration from Nina Proudman’s bedroom in the Austrailian Netflix series offspring lol.

I have a north facing bedroom and I’d recommend using warm colours to make it feel more cosy. I don’t really understand this thing of painting north facing rooms a dark colour, but must confess that I’ve never tried it, so might be missing a trick 😂

For what it is worth, I’m currently redecorating the room in Farrow & Ball Pink Ground with a botanical wallpaper on one wall. I’m not really a pink person, but I’ve tried pretty much every shade of blue, green and grey I can think of in that room and it just looks cold. Pink Ground on the other hand looks wonderfully calm and warm 🥰

Sweetchillijam · 26/10/2020 17:46

Thanks yes I am definitely not a pink person either. I don’t mind purple or coral but pink is probably one of my least favourite colours too.

If you're going to go for it don't wimp out and just do a feature wall - do the whole thing. I've been tempted to do my bedroom but it's so incredibly massive and also doubles as a gym but I have painted my bathroom black - walls, ceilings, woodwork, the lot. It's incredible while having a bath with candles going.

Sweetchillijam · 06/11/2020 14:04

@Titsinknicks or anyone decided to go for this colour paint all over!!! Do you think white skirting, ceiling and radiators or go green? I am mid 50’s so maybe old fashioned.
Did get samples of the wallpapers below for a feature wall behind the bed but wimped out.

Also what colour shall I paint chest of drawers and bedside draws to fit with fitted wardrobes (part mirror part wood)? They are currently a dove grey shade.

Hi op. That's a lovely colour! Not used it myself though. You could try and keep the other bits white and paint them later. But you don't just have to do white. What about a contrast? Navy or a dark teal from that floral fabric? Dark grey?
If you Google 'contrasting skirting board' you can see examples.

Lovely fabrics by the way!

Titsinknicks · 06/11/2020 14:24

Ah they're wallpaper not fabric. Go for it op! I particularly like the floral one. You could even wallpaper the ceiling or would that be a bit much? Wink

I think a navy would work for furniture/woodwork. You could even change the handles etc

Titsinknicks · 06/11/2020 14:24

Or keeping furniture grey would work with other wallpaper

Saz12 · 06/11/2020 14:50

I love the wallpaper on the left! The colour chip with that would look great, though sometimes darker shades are easier to live with than the slightly more “mid toned” ones! You could paint the furniture, skirting etc the same as walls, or a navy blue colour? I’ve seen “Graham Brown adverts with very similar paper and a series of paint colours that go with it, that might help for idea as?

Sweetchillijam · 06/11/2020 15:43

Thanks both (its a dark dull day here and I have the blinds closed as just had a shower) so all the colours slightly cheerier than on photos). I like the flowery one best now I have them home but think I would tire of both/may date as DH doesn’t like to decorate often so just going to paint bedroom green then it will go with a variety of bedding and may get a new quilt.
