Dulux diamond satinwood paint - on top of gloss?

I am wondering whether we need to put an undercoat on top of gloss before applying the satinwood, as it says that it is self-priming. It is to go on skirting, architraves and doors. We will lightly sand prior to applying.

Should we use a primer or undercoat as well please?

I would suggest you do yes. When I applied it after just sanding it didn’t go on well and a light bump or touch peeled it off. I then stripped primed and under coated before reapplying and it seems to be ok this time. It may be my decorating but it may prevent you having to do it twice.

Thanks. Did you apply two coats of the diamond satin when you didn’t prime please? I am wondering whether two coats would make the difference.

Hi apologies for the delay, yes I did and it peeled off if it got knocked

Thank you. We will have to do it properly I think! No taking short cuts. Lightly sand, prime, undercoat and two coats. A job for over a few weekends, I think, or get someone in.

I didn't in my hallway in those circumstances and no chips on 2 years.

I've done two coats over sanded gloss work, no priming (no need if using diamond) and no problems so far with banging and all sorts from moving in. Diamond is different to normal satinwood and more durable.

This could be easier than I though! Lightly sand then two coats of diamond sounds doable. If it was sand, prime, undercoat and the two coats of diamond, I would probably stick with the gloss.
