Any suggestions how to fix this? Carpet shampoo that I've used for years on other carpets did this - gutted! Was wondering if you can get anything to darken to the original colour?

I don’t think there’s anything you can do once the colour has been removed. You would have to dye it. Whereabouts is the mark? Could you cover it or maybe get a piece replaced if quite new.

Sorry I’ve not been much help

Thank you for your suggestions. It's not in a place where you can cover it as it's in front of a wardrobe door. Not sure how I would dye it! I'll have to google it further. Am so gutted as it's less than a year old and was quite expensive.

There will be experts that patch this sort of thing up. When I claimed on my landlord insurance for damage to a carpet, they sent a person who assessed it to see if it could be repaired. Have a Google in your area.

With that style of carpet, I would try watercolour paint. You can mix a few shades of brown and paint random loops til it blends in. It won't last forever so will need topping up, and if you don't like the result you can wash it out (as watercolour paints are water soluable). But I think you'd get a good effect if you took your time to mix shades, and stood back to assess the job after each addition.

Is it a real wool carpet? You have to treat them differently to synthetic carpets unfortunately.

JaJaDingDong · 23/10/2020 20:50

Will your insurance cover it?

minipie · 23/10/2020 23:40

I would be tempted to try colouring in the area with a graphite pencil!

jitterbugintomybrain · 24/10/2020 12:15

Yes it is a wool carpet. Ah some good ideas, thanks all. Am a bit scared to paint it or pencil but suppose it already looks bad so it can't look much worse. Not sure re insurance either, will check. It's such a shame as the carpet is huge, but it's so obvious.

Isn’t it accidental damage? Your house insurance should cover it.

DefinitelyPossiblyMaybe · 24/10/2020 12:17

Not much you can do with that sadly. I kicked a can of gloss paint all over our carpet years ago. Insurance covered it.

jitterbugintomybrain · 24/10/2020 12:52

Is it accidental if you use carpet cleaner on it?

If you replace it you might be able to use the non stained are to recarpet a smaller room.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/10/2020 17:38

Get a pretty rug to put over it.

jitterbugintomybrain · 24/10/2020 18:37

It's in the wrong place for a rug. Yes could reuse the unstained part.

Have you got any spare carpet - if so a good carpet fitter might be able to cut the stain out and put a patch in. We had something similar done In front of a window and I was worried the join would be obvious, but if you didn’t know it had been patched you wouldn’t be able to tell as the seam is virtually invisible
In our case the fitter said we were lucky the damage had been done before there was any fading or wear as the new piece looked exactly the same as the area around it.
