Paint for bannister and railings

Hi paint experts!

We bought our house a year ago. The bannister and railings were painted white and were badly chipped and peeling. We got our neighbour who is a handyman and decorator to paint it and it looked good but it's already chipping again and I've also noticed the paint wearing away in places where the children hold it etc so I'm guessing we need better quality paint. What would be the best paint for such a high traffic area? I've heard Farrow and Ball is good? We also need to paint right down to the carpet (we got the stairs recarpeted and the carpet was fitted better so you can now see some of the wood- just in case that's at all relevant for paint recommendation although I doubt it!)

Thanks!!!

I've just done all my woodwork in trade diamond satinwood. It was about £50 for 2.5 litres, but it's recommended by decorators and looks lovely.

Anyone else? Any thoughts on Farrow and Ball vs Dulux or other brands?
