Dh has decided that the living room doesn’t suit magnolia —beige— anymore and we are going to decorate the living room. I’ve lost mojo for decorating as when I owned my own house I had loads of Scandinavian furniture and furnishings and knew what was on trend at the time which was the 2000’s.
The floor is solid oak, most of our furniture is oak and we have a black leather sofa.
Any ideas on what colours would suit the walls? Wallpaper suggestions are also welcome as I’ll be probably doing that.
I don’t know if I’m brave enough to post a photo yet Blush

Your room sounds very neutral. I guess you could paint the walls any colour. What colours do you like? Do you want to be on trend? Grey is everywhere at the moment.

The living room is one of the most used rooms of the house. I recommend not going with any trends but with what will make you happy and you will be able to relax in.
My living room always has some kind of orange in it as for me the colour is warming and makes me happy.

Dusky blue

Longdistance · 17/10/2020 14:44

@twointhemorning we already have grey in the open plan kitchen, dining and playroom. It’s a very light grey, but didn’t want that colour again.
@Mychitchatdays funnily, dh mentioned orange, I thought he was joking as the running joke with him is ‘let’s just paint it magnolia’.
@DuesToTheDirt when you mean dusky blue, do you mean a light very pale blue?
The living room itself I think is quite dark as the sun rises at the back.
We’ve looked at no.30 Farrow and ball and Dulux darker blue, sapphire I think?
The hallway is blue.
I just don’t think our living room looks cosy or homely at all as it is. Just bland, hence the nagging for twelve years 🙄

I was thinking more a petrol blue, cosy but I guess dark.

Longdistance · 17/10/2020 17:50

Yes, that’s what we were looking at. A dark blue and a blue/green.

My living room is painted in farrow and ball De nimes. It's a dusky petrol blue/green/grey .maybe worth a look?
It's a small room but makes it look very cosy.

@Charlieeee76

I have used Dulux - Sapphire salute and it looks really nice I have never used a colour as dark as this before but it looks lovely. I did his bedroom. DS asked for dark blue I was worried turned out well though.

I’d quite like my living room like this

Love this colour in your Living Room Charlieeee76, quick question what colour is your carpet? we've used B&Q Vence on the walls of our new room. Have a similar sofa but stuck with what carpet will work!

Could you have a look at the Farrow & Ball Instagram feed, they always have lovely pics of their colours on there.
I love Sulking room pink whenever I see it in friend's houses - its a weird colour that changes so much throughout the day. It reminds me of the colour of a blusher.

RoSEbuds6 · 23/10/2020 18:22

what do you think?
Definitely cosy!
