Playroom colour

Hi,

I have someone coming to decorate the playroom after half term but I'm really struggling to know what will look good! It's currently painted in F&B Skimming Stone but it just looks so bland with the white storage furniture. I still want it to look fairly stylish (as stylish as it can look with ball pool, Lego, toddler toys...) - it just needs some colour.

It it between our kitchen and our sitting room so can't be crazy primary colours but surely there are some colours which will look good in there?

If you have a playroom you've decorated it would be so great if you could share a photo with me! Thank you!

Photo is of current decor Grin (yawn!)

What colours are the other two rooms?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/10/2020 17:11

I'd probably keep the current colour but add some wall art in nice colours. Maybe a big map of the world on the main wall, then some smaller prints on the side wall.

A colourful rug.

Well the sitting room is skimming stone too but that is changing as it feels really gloomy in there (north facing) and the kitchen is strong white.

I agree it needs some nice prints and I had also thought of a world map on the wall but I wanted something nice as that is the wall you see from the kitchen. Also looking for one with the countries names on there - otherwise I'll be googling constantly!

I like plain white - could you do it the same white as the kitchen?

Threecouldbefour · 16/10/2020 17:40

I do too and I sort of wish we had never painted anything now! It's a new build. I could paint it same as kitchen yes. Just needs some interest on walls then. I'm always so safe with colours though - kind of fancied something a bit interesting. Just need some inspiration. Pinterest is not helpful this time x

Mines a blue, I between royal and navy blue. It is also covered in the childrens art work.

That is lovely @Phillipa12. It looks really cosy too with the armchair. Ours is a south facing room so could take a stronger/darker colour. I'd quite like our white units to pop against something darker.

That blue is lovely, a denim type blue maybe? You can also get world map wall friezes which you put on like wallpaper, they look great. My nephew has one in his room

We're in the middle of painting our playroom a cross between forest / emerald green. With all white and natural wood storage I think it's looking lovely and still "fun" for a kids room.

SilenceOfTheEmu · 16/10/2020 18:16

Mines a soft sage green and white - can’t take a photo at the moment as I’m at work, but it’s neutral without being bland I think- and quite mellow and soothing!

Phillipa12 · 16/10/2020 18:46

Three my playroom is south-facing with bifold doors, its super cosy as is the chair!

onetwothreeadventure · 16/10/2020 18:59

I have brilliant white and the prints are all in rainbow colours from Etsy.

You could add some shelves and use for toys, books or displaying some prints. Ikea have some nice ones

ShinyGreenElephant · 16/10/2020 19:09

Ours is pale blue with clouds painted on, then white furniture and one whole wall is mirrored which is nice for the little ones dressing up and useful for my oldest dancing

I love farrow and ball smoke green. I am contemplating it for our extension (not yet created!). It would look lovely against white furniture.

My DC are older than yours (10, 9 ad 6 when we decorated) so I was very aware it had to be 'cool' to entertain their friends in a few years so we painted it white and put simple grey blinds up because there was already a grey carpet. We put up SVALNÄS shelves down one wall to store all the books with an orange sofa bed below it and white glossy BESTÅ cupboards on the wall opposite. That is covered in children's art. The basics are all fairly neutral (except the sofa) but the wall of books and wall of cupboards covered in art means it's very colourful. We've got some fun lighting (fairy lights, circus lights etc) and the interest comes from the details. I'm not taking a photo because there's currently a massive den from wall to wall Grin.

Ours is F&B Setting Plaster - pink but a very grown up pink. Not good in a S facing room though, it looks too peachy.

I think a bold green would be lovely in a S facing room, with lots of white.

@SilenceOfTheEmu Sorry to reignite this thread but are you able to tell me the name of the paint you used for your playroom and do you happen to have a photo please? I'm meant to be having mine painted tomorrow in F&B French Gray and I'm having a wobble! Thank you if you get this! Smile
