Removing chalk paint with gloss paint underneath

Can you easily remove Annie Sloan chalk paint from quite a large area, leaving gloss paint underneath in tact?

We've got a deal top kitchen table and one of the things I love(d) about it was the old dark brown glossy paint job on its lower sections.

Owing to a miscommunication my DH has today painted over all the painted parts with dark grey chalk paint (I thought he was only going to paint some small augmentations a joiner had recently put on to stop some wobbling).

I want to get rid of the chalk paint without damaging what's underneath.

Any ideas gratefully received!

I've removed chalk paint with hot soapy water and a metal kitchen scrubby thing (not brillo pad.) You could try with a kitchen washing up sponge if worried about scratches to the gloss.

It is really messy - do it outside!

Thanks! Sounds encouraging that it comes off that easily
