I’ve bought two lampshades from FB marketplace, but I don’t recognise this style lamp shade fitting and not sure how to attach it to my ceiling light.... any ideas?

Google isn’t being much help!

You just slide that slot over the white cable part.

I don’t think that’s a Uk fitting, what did it say on the selling page? Can’t you message the seller and ask?

RJnomore1 · 10/10/2020 13:27

I haven’t seen it before but I’d say the first poster is right - you slot the cable into the slot on the round section, at some point above the light holder bit, and it sits on top of it.

I’ve tried slotting it over the cable but it’s not stable and doesn’t sit straight. Annoyed with myself for not noticing this when I bought them!

It looks similar what is called a cut washer fitting? Am not sure what you'd need to do to fit it though.

Bluntness100 · 10/10/2020 13:59

It seems to be American and for ceiling lights you need a finial, and for table lamps it sits on what’s called a harp

I’d message the seller and ask what additional fittings you need to fit it. Or return it,

Unless there is an actual real fixture to help I would be tempted to slot it over the cable and then wrap fuse wire or something across the open end and round the two struts into the lampshade until it secure and straight - bit Heath Robinson I know.
