What colour to compliment this sofa?

I want to get the Jasper Sofa bed from M&S in Dusty Pink to go in the spare room/office. What colour would you paint the room?
I was considering Dulux Mint Macaroon but worried it may be too blue. Any other suggestions please?

Very pale grey

You might want to fix the typo in your title, OP. It’s “complement” not “compliment”. A colour can’t pay compliments to your sofa!

Brownbananabandana · 10/10/2020 09:42

Is it used often as an office? If it’s predominantly a spare room I’d go to town on a crazy wallpaper, a jungle one with flying cockatoos and parrots and then accessories the he’ll put of it with colourful cushions to pick up tones in the wallpaper, but that not exactly going to make for a calm office space 😂

Inchyra Blue by Farrow & Ball (or a copy!).

Wooosh · 10/10/2020 09:54

@Babdoc I didn't even know they were different words until you said that! Smile

I use it daily as an office and it is fairly small - around 3.5m square - so I was nervous of going too dark.

I would say grey as a safe option, but you could also go for a dark teal. We have a teal sofa and velvet blinds that are a similar colour to that sofa and they look lovely together. I appreciate it might feel a bit dramatic for a small room though!

S00LA · 10/10/2020 10:03

If you use it daily as an office I’d go for the safe option of pale grey, perhaps with some copper accessories.

Grey-green.

Depending on how much light your room gets - Farrow and Ball Card Room Green or Dulux Tranquil Dawn.

We have dulux mint macaroon in the kitchen. I've tried to get a photo that shows the colours both in the shade and in sunlight

Actually that photo makes it look a bit dull compared to how it looks in real life

Wooosh · 10/10/2020 10:31

@ElfCakes thanks for the picture.
Do you think it would go with the pink sofa? It is like a light teal?

We have a pink sofa from M&S and went with an almost Wedgwood blue in the living room with it.

Our other sofa is grey. All works really well together.

I'd say extremely palest, barely grey or white. It might also work well with patterned wallpaper but perhaps not in a study.

Farrow and Ball skimming stone, something like that, also.

Fartleking · 10/10/2020 11:46

Don't do grey unless you want to. I looked up the pp's suggestions above and think that tranquil Dawn is a slightly softer colour than mint macaroon. I would go for that colour. If it is terrible you can always repaint!

BestestBrownies · 10/10/2020 12:10

Depends how you want the room to feel. If it’s small and in regular use as an office then you need to keep as much natural light as possible and foster a calm, non distracting vibe.

I would stick to a colour palette the same tone as the sofa, just several shades lighter on the walls, then darker shades with rose gold and dark aubergine accessories.

Trut · 10/10/2020 12:29

“Farrow and Ball skimming stone, something like that, also.“

I agree. f&B skimming stone would look nice. Depends a bit on the light though. Is it south facing? I find skimming stone looks best in south light

Minimumstandard · 10/10/2020 12:37

Farrow and Ball Cromarty might also look good with pink.

YorkshireTea86 · 10/10/2020 12:43

We have mint macaroon and tranquil Dawn in our house. Both would go with it but I would say mint macaroon is much more vibrant, so I'd go for tranquil Dawn which depending on the light changes from sage to Grey green to mint.
The image is mint macaroon in dds bedroom.

@YorkshireTea86. What a lovely room! Lucky DD Smile.

YorkshireTea86 · 10/10/2020 12:53

@minimumstandard thank you! She is very lucky, its a huge bedroom (3.4m x 4.7m) she absolutely loves it, it was a lockdown project!
