Help north facing bedroom help please!! We don’t decorate often currently dove grey walls and a laura ashley dove grey & white subtle feature wall on one wall.

Torn between fancying a restful muted colour all over maybe pale green or a farrow and ball type muted colour (can’t decide which colour) open to suggestions of anything except a pink or another grey)? Or a bold wallpaper as a feature wall with subtler paint colour on other walls. Maybe bold purple, multi floral, teal or jade green? Any suggestions welcome please?

Anyone? Also are feature walls either wallpaper or darker painted still a thing?

My answer isn’t what you were hoping for, but...I’m about to paint my north facing bedroom in Farrow & Ball Pink Ground. I have it in my kitchen, and had enough left over to paint a big tester patch in my bedroom and, honestly, it looks lovely in that light.

If I’m brave enough, I might go for a wallpaper like this, but I’ll probably chicken out www.grahambrown.com/uk/midsummer-fern-navy-wallpaper/107881-master.html

I don’t know if feature walls are on their way out or not, but as I decorate for me, I don’t really care about what’s trendy or not as you can probably tell from that paper 😂

Thanks love the wallpaper @Crazzzycat and that doesn’t look too pink and would be lovely with the wallpaper (if only I didn’t have an aversion to pink).

Anyone else any inspiration please for a north facing bedroom. I have hardly been out so think I will order what I need on line.

Either nice subtle paint or some wallpaper for a feature wall and subtle paint for the other three walls.

Thanks

Me again 🙈 Bumping this for you, but also just wanted to say that I’ve just received a sample of the wallpaper I linked to above and it is rather nice!

There are quite a few nice wallpapers on the Graham and Brown website and I noticed they make suggestions for colours to match them with. All their own colours of course, but it might give you an idea?

I think the general advice for north facing rooms is to go for warmer colours and to avoid greens and blues as these can look really cold. My north facing hallway is painted light blue and it’s positively icy 🥶 White and grey can also end up looking quite blu-ish so that’s something to be aware of.

Also some people say that dark colours are the way to go in north facing rooms as it makes them look cosy. I don’t really subscribe to that (in spite of that dark wall paper) but I can see the logic

My decorator always told me, darker rooms can take brighter colours, sunny rooms can take cool colours.
So for you dont what ever you do use a cold blue

That wallpaper would look fabulous, maybe with the other three walls a very dark colour such as F&B Studio Green?
Or, completely opposite, I also like Teresa's Green.

Oh and ramp up the lighting obvs

Sweetchillijam · 07/10/2020 17:11

Thanks @Crazzzycat so green is maybe out then. Although I am menopausal so maybe that might do the trick lol.

I will look at Green & Brown thanks. Although I don’t like pink I that wallpaper will look fab with the pink and extremely well coordinated.

We’re decorating our north-west facing bedroom and have chosen F&B Setting Plaster. It’s lovely but of course it’s pink so not for you. The other colour I considered was Cromarty which is a green-grey and we ended up using it in the ensuite instead. Pictured on a sunny day when we’d just painted and a cloudy grey day when we hung the new blind.

I’ve seen Cromarty used in other north facing rooms so don’t be completely put off all greeny colours. North facing light does bring out green tones though so I’d recommend warm neutrals if you want to avoid this.

I love Matthew Williamson wallpaper same sort of theme, botanical... would look lovely as a feature wall but the price is diabolical
