I have a new carpet in my living room and would like a big rug to go under my coffee table and cover the area where feet go for sitting on the sofa, that bit got really manky on my old carpet so I'd like to protect the new one. I'm looking at something approx 160x230 cm which seems to be a standard size. I'd tuck it just under the sofa feet, it's an L-shaped sofa in a cream/beige colour.
I thought I'd like something colourful but any samples I took home from the carpet shop with bright or dark colours looked completely over the top. My room is quite neutral but I have deep red curtains and mellow mocha on the walls, oak furniture. The one sample I did like had pastel shade wide stripes but it turned out to have been discontinued.
My local rug shop don't have anything my husband and I agree on. He suggested getting a rug edged in the same carpet as the floor but I think that would look odd! He's got very plain tastes and would choose something he liked without any consideration of it it will go with the room or not. Whereas I would consider something I wouldn't normally gravitate to if I think it will fit in with my decor nicely.
I'm nervous of buying online because so many of the rugs I thought I liked in the shop didn't go at all when I held a sample of my carpet against them. It'd be a real faff to send a large rug back if it's not right and I worry I'd settle for something I don't like and just convince myself it's ok!
I've attached a close up of the carpet but would rather not share photos of the whole room.
Hit me with your suggestions please!
