Rugs on carpet - yes or no

I have a deep pile darker coloured rug in front of our fireplace on top of beige carpet. I like the look of it but apparently some people consider it a big no no, so wondering what the general consensus is? I’m not planning to remove it, as obviously it’s my house/taste, just curiosity!

I actually like a nice rug on carpet, as long as there's a good contrast of colours and textures.

Why is a rug on top of carpet a no no? Genuine question! I mainly have rugs on hard wood floors admittedly, but have a rug on carpet in my front room anD it looks nice and the sky hadn’t fallen it yet...

WTF is this new rule about not putting rugs on carpets?

I’m not sure that it’s a new thing, as searching on Google, it seems to go back a few years - and even to the extent of being described as “taboo”! I’m not sure why it’s considered a no no by some but I like it it, so as I said was just curious really 😀

I just found the rugs walked and were a trip hazard compared to on wood, but they looked nice
