What wall colour with cream gloss kitchen?

Just that really. We want to repaint our kitchen and I have no idea what colour to go for.
It’s a small kitchen with cream gloss units with brushed metal handles, and a dark grey slate effect tiled floor. We have a black rangemaster and black freestanding fridge freezer. Walls are currently a pale green. Can not afford to replace the units, floor or appliances but just wanted a fresh look and to bring it a bit more up to date.

Any ideas please? Thank you Smile

Perhaps match to your cream cupboards? But I like neutral and others may find that boring.

Ochre? I painted mine Grey similar style and now I regret not going bolder

FTMF30 · 18/09/2020 19:01

Duck egg blue?

Liking these suggestions so far, thank you Smile I was on the fence about whether to go neutral or bold.

We have cream gloss units and used F&B’s Pointing which is a perfect colour match.

I have cream coloured units too and recently painted my kitchen in Farrow & Ball Pink Ground. It was a bit of a spur of the moment decision, as I’m not usually a pink-person, but it turned out to be a really good match.

I'm getting a new kitchen with cream gloss units and I really don't know what to paint the walls! I've narrowed it down to brilliant white, Dulux Timeless/Jasmine White, some sort of blush pink or some sort of sage green.

I think the sage green would look amazing but nothing else in my house is green. I have a pink/cream/white/wooden theme going on everywhere else.

Marmaladegin · 21/09/2020 23:16

Rose pink! But I like a retro kitchen and a bit of life so maybe you'd rather stick more neutral than that?

CountFosco · 22/09/2020 08:48

We've got a cream gloss kitchen, we have a sage green wall (which is nice) and the rest are magnolia (which are not). This will change but I'm not sure what to. I have a hatred of feature walls though so will be going down to just one wall colour and generally I paint all walls brilliant white but not sure if that will work.

tinselvestsparklepants · 22/09/2020 09:00

I'd suggest painting the walls white then putting up some big bright pictures etc. That's what we've done. Easy to change and we have framed tea towels so 'pictures' weren't pricey!

GOODCAT · 22/09/2020 09:06

We have cream gloss cabinets and colour matched the wall paint to them. I found I preferred the white undercoat. About to repaint it white and as @tinselvestsparklepants said add colour through pictures.

In the shop we got it from the show unit with these cabinets had very dark grey walls with orange accents through spices and it looked great, but I couldn't live with such dark walls.

We tried all sorts of paint colours as samples but didn't really like any of them.

I have a cream gloss kitchen and mine were deep cherry red, it looked gorgeous and really stood out. I loved it. However, I've recently put it on the market and when I got the estate agent round he said it was lovely but a bit dark so lighten it up for the viewers, which I did in a light grey, it's awful but I understood it needed doing. I would not recommend grey against cream and if it were me, I'd go for a bold colour.

2me2u2u2me · 22/09/2020 09:11

oh, and before the deep cherry I had burnt orange, that looked fab too. I'd definitely not put white against them, it makes them look grubby.

I just got a tester pot (from Decorating Centre Online) colour matched to Farrow & Ball De Nimes. It's a lovely colour - slightly blue in the light, and would look great with the cream and black. A poster on here recommended it for something and it's lovely!

How about a soft sagey green? Or an almost plaster colour, like a pinky/terracotta. You can go with all sorts of colours really, but I'd avoid white as it could make the walls or units look 'off.'

ThatDirection · 22/09/2020 09:54

@crazzzycat. My daughter's bedroom is Pink Ground and it's a gorgeous colour. One day in the future I will use it for a downstairs room. I imagine it could look wonderful in the right kitchen.

ThatDirection · 22/09/2020 09:56

OP - I was going to recommend a sage Green or a deep brown-toned yellow, depending on the light in your kitchen. My friend has sage green and cream units in North facing kitchen and its too dull.

Abraid2 · 22/09/2020 09:59

Little Greene intelligent matt emulsion is good for kitchen walls as it can be wiped clean. I'm not sure that F&B is quite as good in that respect, from experience elsewhere in the house.

We have slaked lime on our kitchen walls, but that's with China blue cabinets.

WellTidy · 22/09/2020 10:36

Farrow and ball breakfast room green would be my choice. Its a sage green with a bit of depth.

Or more of an olive green would be nice too.

GreyTS · 22/09/2020 12:21

Excuse the mess, but I've had cream gloss cabinets for the past 14 years and have tried every different colour suggested, cream to match, light grey, duck egg blue, asked a colour consultant at the paint shop (f&b) they said white and yes white is the only one that has worked

My walls are dark brown

Crazzzycat · 23/09/2020 18:35

@ThatDirection I love Pink Ground so much, I’m planning to use it to paint my bedroom next and I might have a go at the living room too 🙈 It’s been quite a revelation!

One of my DSs did warn me against going too crazy, but even he had to concede that it works remarkably well with the cream kitchen units 😊

woodlandwalker · 23/09/2020 18:40

I had sage with my cream gloss kitchen and it worked well. I think grey clashes with cream, as does white. A neutral similar to the cream just makes the room too cream. A dark colour would look good if the room is light.

ThatDirection · 23/09/2020 18:43

@crazzzycat They do say you should use one colour scheme throughout Grin

Sometimes I go in my teen DD's room when she is out just to admire the colour. I'd love a bedroom painted in pink ground.

What about Valspar “Ginger Kitten”?
