We have a newly refurbished bathroom which is looking very plain. We have travertine wall tiles and a neutral white walls and white fittings.
Struggling to make it more personal so would love to know what others have done. Pics very welcome Smile

Maybe a bold colour instead of white on the walls? Colourful towels and accessories, plants?

onlinelinda · 14/09/2020 10:22

Many neutral rooms are set off by wood.

You could deepen the neutral eg in paint? Like a dark tan, Dulux Spiced Honey or deep warm grey eg railings? Whether the tone of your neutral is brown or yellow or red based, chase down a deeper version of that? How dark to go for a mid tone will depend on the size and aspect of the room.

Or this is interesting

Thanks for the suggestions. What have people gone for in terms of accessories? Do you have pictures on the walls?

I have a few houseplants in my bathroom and I think they really make the room. One is quite big and dramatic and the others are more window sill sized.

A lot of houseplants thrive in bathrooms. Just look for plants that like high humidity (ferns, palms etc)

We had a picture on the wall in our old bathroom, but it absorbed the steam and ended with damp patches inside the frame - luckily only a cheap print, but it was spoiled. We also had a row of coloured glass bottles on the windowsill. We now have a bowl-sized seashell with a collection of small seashells in it - but we live by the sea.

You might have a mosaic picture or pretty china soapdish with polished stones.

A large bottle or a small fishbowl half-filled with glass marbles?

FlamedToACrisp · 15/09/2020 01:09

Glass paperweights? A row of glazed china animals?

Lots of plants

@LetterOfTheLawFella I had a similar thread earlier this year. Adding a Roman blind and lots of plants has made a big difference. I also recently added some floating oak shelves which helped to break up one of the white walls. I’m still on the hunt for pictures.

We don’t have any accessories at all, unless you count the laundry baskets and some storage baskets under the vanity. I like a very minimal bathroom.

Having said that, I like the idea of a couple of plants. Maybe air plants to avoid needing to water them.

I have one plant at the moment which sits in a basket on top of the boiler cabinet. I plan to get a hanging basket with a trailing plant for another corner of the room. When I find the right set of shelves to sit on the wall by the bath I will add another plant there too.

At the moment I’ve got a jar of faux flowers, two little candle jars and some tea light holders on the window sill. But we’re having Venetian blinds installed this month so the sill will no longer be available. These bits will also go onto the shelves by the bath once I’ve found it.l.

We’re planning to switch out the mirror for an ornate one to be more in keeping with the suite.

I’ve got my eye on three prints to go on the one wall; I’m still looking for the right set of prints to go on either side of the feature wall.

We also need a circular rug for the middle of the room (it’s a disproportionately large bathroom with a little too much space), a wicker chair and a glass cabinet. But there’s a loooooong list of things to fix and pay for in this house so it’ll probably be a good long while before it properly comes together!

Bath mats and towels, soap holder/dispenser, toilet brush (I know!), bin, etc. All have a theme. Not matchy matchy, but coherent. Plus plants, I have had pictures and wall signs at different points. We usually have some thing from nature, although I know Stacey Solomon got in trouble for bringing beach stones home on her instagram so I will pretend we didn't used to do that Wink

I would love to do a bold colour and some complimentary wall paper and complimentary tiles, lots of different colours that complement but aren't the same. I used to like muted colours in my home, but I'm getting braver

GOODCAT · 15/09/2020 21:35

We are in the process of doing ours.

We have prints on the walls, cheap ones, I don't ultimately mind getting damaged, but they are fine at the moment. In our current one (which is currently ripped apart), we have a cornflower blue wall with white framed prints, which look really good. The previous owners chose the paint colour and I really like it.

In our new one it is going to end up being more neutral, we don't have much room so colour will come from towels and prints. I would like a bright ochre wall, but my husband isn't keen so it will be white.

I struggle for inspiration as so many images online are of very bland bathrooms. I like white bathrooms though. Some new build showhouses seem to go for bright modern prints. There are also some good bathroom shelfie photos online.

Ninkanink · 16/09/2020 10:57

Oh I should’ve probably talked about the specifics of decor...

Walls are white. One light grey feature wall. Tiles are a mid grey, along one wall by the sink and through to shower. Floors are dark wood vinyl with a mix of three shades. Venetian blind will be a dark walnut-ish colour to tie in with floor. I am going to get either an amber or very dark green large glass dispenser bottle for the hand soap. Rug for the middle of the room will likely be a wheat/natural colour to tie in with basket(s) and future wicker chair. Currently bath and shower mats are white. My jarred candles are cream and rose pink, the faux flowers match the cream colour. Future rose prints will tie in the with the rose pink.

We’ve just had our bathrooms done too. White tiles and fittings and very light grey worktops.

We’ve got turquoise and grey towels in one bathroom with a grey blind and grey (with a tiny bit of sparkle) baskets to hold bubble baths and DD’s toys. In the other bathroom, we have pink towels (DD’s choice) and artwork on the wall, either side of the window. They are black and white line drawings of Mickey and Minnie Mouse as it’s mostly DD’s bathroom.
