Redecorating open plan downstairs?

We moved into our house last year and I’d like to redecorate but am a bit stuck with the downstairs. Its fully open plan, with the stairs coming down into the living room, which then goes into the dining room which then goes round a corner into the kitchen. The kitchen, dining room, living room, stairs and upstairs landing are all the same colour (just a standard magnolia) which I don’t love, but repainting the entire area would be a massive job. Plus even though I don’t massively like the colour, it does work for such a large amount of wall space, I wouldn’t want a bold colour over such a large space for example.
We do have one big wall that runs the length of the house, along the living room and dining room - I suppose we could paint that, but in an ideal world any colour we chose would match the magnolia we have so we didn’t have to paint everything else anyway.
How do you redecorate an open plan space with no obvious start/stop points for different colours?

My house is similar. I painted all walls white and each 'area' has it's own theme with art, rugs and so on.
