Cinema room paint colours

We decided to spend the money we would have spent on holidays in converting our attic to a cinema room. I'm really happy with it and we've used it loads but I think I'm going to have to repaint the walls really dark to improve the viewing experience. Anyone got a cinema room and could recommend a paint colour? I could go for a matt black everywhere but I'm too scared to do this.

Haven't got a cinema room myself sadly but at my local cinema the walls are a dark red and they create a nice ambience when the lights go down. Not too dark and a nice bit of colour.

trumpisaflump · 10/09/2020 22:27

Yes I think a really dark red or a dark navy would be nice and cosy. Thanks

Ours is a textured dark grey wallpaper and we have film themed large artwork to add a bit of colour. Also wall mounted lamps.

katie43210 · 10/09/2020 22:34

Agree, really dark without going totally black

frasersmummy · 10/09/2020 22:36

I cannot believe people have cinema rooms!!

How posh is that?

I've just told DH about this thread and he has a new found admiration for Mumsnetters.

He said he'd paint the walls of his (imaginary) cinema room grey or mauve. Yes, mauve. Confused

follygirl · 10/09/2020 22:40

We have a cinema room and decorated it with film posters of our favourite films. I bought the posters from Etsy really cheaply and then bought cheap frames.
I think it looks fab and it's always a taking point.

follygirl · 10/09/2020 22:41

talking not taking

The walls are grey by the way but the posters dress it up a bit.

No cinema room in my house but our living room is painted in "Oratory" by Mylands Paint - it's a lovely dark bluey grey and could work really well.

trumpisaflump · 10/09/2020 22:55

@frasersmummy yeah I know! I never thought I would like having one but it's actually my favourite room in the house now.
@lakeswimmer thanks. That looks really nice.

Squid Ink by Paint & Paper Library

OhioOhioOhio · 10/09/2020 23:00

What stops it being a lounge with a big tele?

trumpisaflump · 11/09/2020 08:56

@minipie wow I love that paint! That could work really well.

@OhioOhioOhio nothing really except it has a huge paper type screen on the far wall instead of a TV and the only other furniture in it is a big sofa and all the sound equipment

If you want a proper cinema room you should consider getting a beamer instead of using a tv. We had one in our tiny apartment and the whole wall became a movie screen, it was amazing!

trumpisaflump · 11/09/2020 09:07

@NoMoreMrNiceGaius is that for me or the other posters? We've got a projector, huge screen, amp, surround sound etc. I love it!!

How about F&B “Brinjal”? Sort of very dark aubergine colour.
Or a very dark grey-green, Little Greene “Obsidian” is nice.

Heya, sorry I didn't see your reply to OhioOhioOhio so I hadn't sent that you already have a projector. It sounds so awesome and cozy, would you consider posting a pic once you've painted the walls?

NoMoreMrNiceGaius · 11/09/2020 11:01

Hasn't seen that, not "sent". I wish we could edit posts to fix auto correct mistakes.

trumpisaflump · 11/09/2020 11:18

@NoMoreMrNiceGaius I will. It's so cosy especially when it's pouring with rain outside and we're in the pitch black inside. My DS had his birthday party there with a few friends and they loved watching movies there too.
