After disastrous tv stand from Argos and very well made bed from John Lewis dh only wants to get furniture from John Lewis. We just moved to a bigger house and need several pieces. I found couple of things from Next but not sure about their quality. Has anyone experience of Next furniture and how was the assembly?

We ordered a child’s bed a few years ago now. Delivery was excellent and the quality was perfect. Has lasted us 5 years and still looks as good as new.

We had loads of problems with next furniture, 3 damages beds in a row, problems with feet on sofas, long waits for everything. Didn't feel worth the higher cost than ikea tbh

I had a sofa from the once and it was awful.

RingtheBells · 07/09/2020 19:30

We bought a sofa from Next clearance which was heavily reduced and have been happy with it, quality seems fine, it’s a Hampshire one, I was looking for one with a highish back which are fairly difficult to get nowadays and spotted it on the clearance pages for about £450. Delivery was very quick and we were happy with that

We have a sofa and a dining table from next and had no issues with either.

I bought dining chairs from there about 15 years ago and they’re still going strong.

We have a sofa and an armchair. Very happy with both and would not hesitate to buy other furniture on them based on the quality.

I think next furniture is very over priced for what it is. It’s usually not proper wood and the drawer inners are usually the flimsy chipboard stuff that started to now or pop out. I get stuff from places like cotswold co or oak furniture land for a similar price to next and they are solid pieces of furniture.

HappyDinosaur · 07/09/2020 19:39

We found Next stuff to be good, The Furniture Market is another place we really like.

I've had a couple of terrible experiences with Next furniture, including a sideboard that quite literally fell apart as the delivery men were unpacking it. Needless to say I refused delivery, but then had an absolute nightmare with their customer services team.

Never again.

Can't comment on Next, but have you signed up to Trade Secret? They quite often have John Lewis furniture on their website. I like some Ercol, and have bought a few prices from their online factory outlet.

I bought a tv unit and sideboard vastly reduced from next clearance just before lockdown (the Agra range in solid mango wood, no chipboard). Had to wait ages for it because of lockdown obvs but great quality and both were fully assembled apart from feet which were very easy to fit.

Have had 2 beds and 2 side boards from there - terrible quality and terrible customer service when parts were missing.
My sons bed was so badly designed it broke within a week.
I’d never buy furniture from there again

Over the years weve had lots of furniture from Next - 2 beds (still great after 10 years) various living room furniture - never had a problem with any of it and we're about to order some furniture to do up the spare room. 🙂 the sofas are hit and miss though. We've just donated a sofa bed that got used a fair amount really because we are redecorating rather than any fault. But one sofa, bought in the sale, looked like crap after a few months. 🙁 I think though that very similar furniture can be found at Dunelm for less money. Not sure of the quality though

Bagelsandbrie · 09/09/2020 06:18

I’ve had a bed from Next and it’s still going strong 10 years later (bed frame anyway, we got a new mattress in that time).

However, for general furniture I would always try and buy local where you can actually see the quality of the stuff. Have a google for furniture outlets / local furniture shops near you. There are quite a few outlet type places about where you can get good quality pieces much cheaper.

I don’t think John Lewis is really any better than anywhere else and it’s very overpriced.
