We live in an old farmhouse in the country. The lady we bought the house from had recently renovated it, so when we moved in everything was very fresh and there was no need to redecorate. I really like the way she decorated and styled everything.

It's been a few years and I badly need to repaint the hall, stairs and landing (kids!). I don't really want to change the colour scheme.

The walls are a colour that I probably would have described as magnolia, but having tried several samples it obviously isn't.

I don't need to match the colour exactly (although that would be handy!) but I do want something very similar. I think it suits the overall style of the house and matches in with the blinds and carpets which I have no intention of changing.

Please help me find a nice paint colour.

If it helps here is a picture of the colour the walls are currently (background) with a sample of magnolia over the top (middle).

A farrow & ball neutral?

Try getting some colour charts of various paint brands and holding it beside the wall.

Gingefringe · 30/08/2020 14:14

Farrow and Ball Lime White is nice.

That looks like skimming stone to me. It's lovely.

Abraid2 · 31/08/2020 07:23

I was going to say skimming stone too. We have it in a downstairs room and it is good.

Dulux timeless?

dooratheexplorer · 31/08/2020 14:03

Yes, try Dulux Timeless. Nice colour and not as yellow as Maggy!

What I have done before for a colour I really wanted close to was to cut off a bit of paper with it on and take it to the lovely man who by now probably wants to run off when he sees me at my local dulux trade centre. He's been there forever and can say 'that looks like c1234' and can put it in a matching machine to find the closest colour they sell

Wildwood6 · 03/09/2020 12:18

If you download the Dulux app they have a colour picker tool that will try to match the colour for you. It might not be identical but hopefully it'll be pretty close!

Could be Dulux Hessian ( white).Does it change colour with the light?
We have it in the sitting room( old cottage)

bouncydog · 05/09/2020 19:17

It looks very dark to me as magnolia is quite a lot lighter than your pic? Timeless is good.

ChooksAndBooks · 05/09/2020 20:03

Yes it does change colour quote a bit with light.
