I need help😫 the house is mostly done in magnolia and when the lights are on (and when they aren't actually) it all just looks dirty and cigarette stained. It's not but looks it. I hate it, it looks cheap and nasty.
It's rented but I'm allowed to decorate as long as it's not shocking.
What's a nice neutral paint shade that doesn't look like magnolia? I tried a pale grey but it looks far too dark so that's out.
I can't break the bank for it but it's so dismal

Hi op, do you want to paint the whole house all one colour?

Magnolia looks like smoke stains because of the yellow in it - choose a white that has blue tinge, or a pale blue.
What about something like this?

Have a look at this Dulux colour chart - magnolia is on there for contrast.

Out of the colours shown I quite like Fine Cream. It’ll be close enough to not upset the landlord, yet will brighten the place up.

I really like Rock Salt and if you’ve tried a pale grey, I’m assuming you like grey, so this might be good for you and look cleaner than magnolia?

These are all great, Thankyou.
I've done a Pearl grey in the bathroom and kitchen and that looks nice and tasteful but the rest of the house has bigger rooms and it would be too dark.
Not to mention dark varnished picture rails that are horrible Grin
The other woodwork has all been done in a shade of green (not by me)

Try Egyptian Cotton. We had walls done in cream and we were sick of it. Egyptian cotton is lovely, response well to the changes in light and it is suitably away from the cream look.

If in doubt, I go for Timeless, it's a lovely chalky white.

Thankyou I feel better about the future of the walls lol

Another vote for timeless, looks clean and fresh without being too stark.
