Pine table with painted legs - yes or no?

I have an MFI pine dining table that is 20 years old.
It's still sturdy it the top is very tatty and it needs a table cloth

I'm tempted to take it out in the garden on the weekend and rub it down. Wax the top or varnish and paint the legs.
Is this is dated look?

We have been I our house 20 years now and everything is looking tired but I want to keep it classic and not go down any fads but I'm conscious I haven't really looked at home decor in the last 20 years.

( I also have a matching pine dresser, I thought if I painted that it may already be a dated look)

No I don't think it's dated at all & a good way or saving money & environment especially if it's good quality. The best paint for the legs would be rustoleum furniture paint satin finish (not chalk). Hardly any prep & time to paint very hardwearing. Be warned it's addictive though. I have done lots of projects including a dresser.

I'm just about to do my son's chest of drawers. Smile
Painted drawer fronts and frame, waxed top.

Not dated, you will love your piece of furniture so much when you've finished.

I just finished this...

@thisstooshallpass Wow! Lovely job. What brand and shade did you use?

@thisstooshallpass looks great! What prep did you need to do?
Like OP my mum has a line table and dresser which she’s had since the 70s. I’d love to give it a spruce up

FredaFox · 25/08/2020 16:59

Pine 🙈

thisstooshallpass · 25/08/2020 18:28

@FredaFox just required a clean with sugar soap and a light sanding.

The paint is Frenchic, very easy to work with, dried quickly too.

thisstooshallpass · 25/08/2020 18:28

@Glitterbiscuits it's Frenchic lazy range in Hornblower.

Stinkyjellycat · 25/08/2020 18:34

Do it. It did one with dark grey legs and it’s transformed it. It looks so much more modern and got lots of compliments.

Glitterbiscuits · 25/08/2020 20:01

Ok, I'm going to do it.

What's best for the top?
