Help! Where to start with living room.

We’ve lived here for years and we’ve still got the original curtains from the previous owners.

It’s all looking really tired and I don’t know where to start. Help please.

Depending on your budget, I would try my best to pick a focal point for the room and work around that.

So for instance, when DP & I moved to our first home, we had no furniture so obviously needed to buy a sofa. We bought a style that we liked then picked the other furniture/colours around that item. We painted the room a complimenting colour. We took accent colours from the cushions and had a feature wallpaper a complimenting colour. We did the same for blinds and a curtains, those make a massive difference to a room and make things feel more homely and inviting. Then we had nice metallic side tables and coasters. Wall mounted the TV and had sideboards with knick knacks on.

Your focal point might be different in your home though. Is there a lovely fireplace where you could put a nice mirror above? Might there be a nice bay window that you can dress with nice curtains and blinds?

You could even just buy a painting/artwork for one of your walls and then choose your other furnishings around that focal inspiration piece!
