new carpets and baby, help!

We are redoing our house at the moment and our carpets in the house have been covered in dog wee from previous owners so we've been waiting to get then changed for a while. I have a 7 month old and we ordered new carpets to be installed next month.

Except I've just been reading that the VOC levels of fitting a new carpet are really harmful for babies under 1?! I genuinely had no idea that fitting new carpets could be harmful and now I'm worried about it.

Anyone who works in the trade or had experience with it put my mind at ease?

No idea, I’ve never heard of it. I’ve had 7 children and new carpet at least three times in different sections of the house and they’re all unaffected as far as I can tell 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've read about this too and it is something that concerns me too. Could you opt for something like wool carpet which is lower in VOCs or something like cork flooring? These are two I am considering when I move.

I've paid for it already so no. My friend has put my mind at ease a bit and said it's fine and I've bought an air purifier so gonna make sure the fumes go quick!

Everything can kill a baby these days 🙄. I swear as parents we are supposed to spend our lives doing thesis-style research and 20 page risk assessments before we do anything.

Open the windows for a few hours after. It will be fine.

Put wooden floors?

@SqidgeBum pahaha! Thanks for making me smile!! It really does seem that way, I sometimes feel like i should just stare at my baby and do nothing else for the 1st year then resume life as normal

The only time I massively noticed this was when we had new carpets while I was pregnant and I had next level sense of smell! The fumes went after about two weeks but just keep windows and doors open as much as possible if you're worried! My DH noticed exactly.....nothing.
