Front door you love?

Thinking of replacing our front door but looking for ideas. House is 1940/50. Has anyone got a front door they really love?

Do you have the original front door? If yes then definitely don’t replace!!! But do a full door restoration, sand back, fill in holes, prime, paint, new hardware. Doors and windows are the soul of a house, replacements never look as good, would only replace if you have zero other option. I always feel sad when I see lovely older houses with replaced doors and windows. You could spend the money on a professional restoration instead, they could make it look amazing?

I think that first and foremost, it needs to be in keeping with the rest of the property to look good.

Even if your door is replacement, I’d have a look at similar houses in the area to see what’s original and choose a similar style.

Don't worry - it can only be an improvement! Have been here ten years and would guess the front door is twenty years old, very in-lovely UPVC and glazed.

The front doors are kind of sideways onto the street (quirk of the street layout) so you can't see them in series as you go along the street. I only know the doors of my immediate neighbours - neither are original or particularly similar to each other, but obviously I don't want to choose anything that jars.

UN-lovely, not in-lovely. Sigh.
