School boy error - didn't get a tester pot, just wanted to get on with the job. Bought a large tin, first coat done.

I wanted a kind of Eau De Nil - a pale greigy green (its for hall, stairs and landing). With the light / carpet / flooring, it looks more fresh minty green.

I dont want to buy another big tin of paint so am contemplating mixing a small tin of dark grey into it to make it more 'greige-y'. Will this work? Maybe I should add brown? If not, any advice about which colour to mix in?

Thanks

If I were you I'd start again. I'd buy a few greige testers. You can either paint them directly on the wall (two coats) or on card, then see how they look during different times of the day. With a card, you can move it around to see how it looks in different walls. You could try your own mix but you risk getting it wrong and spending more in the end than starting again. And it sounds more laborious.

Good luck!

Oh and you'd need to add possibly both grey and beige to it to make it greige so possibly just as expensive and if you run out or want to do touch ups it'll be very hard to replicate...

Thank you, think you're probably right!

Can you leave it a couple of days? I painted the dining room what was supposed to be a sage green but it wasn't, there was no grey/blue in it. I would have called it mint or maybe apple. It looked nothing at all like the colour on the side of the tin.

A week later, it did. I had been bad mouthing it to a friend who is a professional decorator and he said that this is not uncommon. I've never had a wall change colour on me but this time, it did.

Oh, hadnt realised that might happen. Thanks for the advice.
