Styling a single bed

I'm having a guest stay for the first time in ages and I would like to style my single, spare bed. I usually go on Pinterest for this type of thing but most photos are of non single beds.

A couple of questions:

  1. It's a wooden bed frame and I have plastic storage boxes under the bed. It would be nicer if they could be covered. Could I use a valance sheet? My style is modern so I'm not sure if they would work.
  1. I also sometimes find a single duvet to be a bit flimsy. Should I use a double duvet on a single bed?

Thanks!

I've used a valance before. Doesn't have to be a frilly thing.
Would a double duvet swamp the oed?

If the bed is against a wall pull it away a bit and then a double duvet will cover the bed equally both sides and cover the boxes!

More important than styling are things like decent lamp, accessible plug sockets, maybe a usb charger, extra blankets, naice towels, and a comfortable chair if there's room.

I believe you can get flat-sided valances with box pleats at the corners.

Alternatively, how about getting a quilt with a plain white or black quilt cover and tucking it over the boxes to hide them?

Or, of course, you could shove the storage boxes in your bedroom, loft, shed or garage while your guest is staying!
