Small room dark paint

Can you paint a box room a dark colour? I'm keen to do a dark dark navy. What do I have to consider. What can I include to not make it look like a teenager has painted their room in protest?

I've painted my lounge teal and dark grey (looks black to me) with a mid grey floor. My narrow hallway is a dark red. A lot of people told me that I shouldn't as it would make it all seem smaller, but to me it looks comforting and cosy. My bedroom is dark purple but with a light purple on some of the walls to offset it.
I love dark colours in rooms personally 😊

My downstairs loo is dark blue. It looks amazing. I love colour.
