Upcycling question: can I use wax on emulsion paint?

(Pls let me know if this question is better posted in the DIY thread..)

I’ve painted wooden drawer fronts using emulsion wall paint. This is because I only wanted a little bit of each colour so just used sample pots. But now I don’t know if I need a protective top coat. And more to the point, I’d like to give them a bit more depth, so can I use Annie Sloan dark wax on them? Any expert upcyclers out there know?

Btw, I’ve googled and googled this but can’t find a straight answer. The different terms and massive range of paints and finishes in the US (where upcycling seems huge) have just left me utterly confused.

I’ve done this but it was a while ago. From memory I softened the wax and painted it on with a brush and then buffed it. It did work.

If you’re unsure, try a little on the inside of the drawer front.

Yes you can use wax on top of emulsion.

Even a clear wax will darken the colour it's on top of though, so bear that in mind, (the AS dark wax is... dark)

Excellent! I have clear wax too. Smile. Thanks!
