Are these now really dated? We’re about to decorate the lounge and wanted to do one wall (the longest) in sulking room pink and the other walls in a near white/pale grey (not chosen yet). I love sulking room but the room is very large and I feel it’ll be too much all over.

Hmmm I want to know this too. I've some fab retro wallpaper I want to use on just one wall...

tabulahrasa · 09/07/2020 01:31

I’ve got some wallpaper on one recessed bit of wall, it’s way too overpowering for a whole room but I love it...

Don’t really care if it’s dated tbh.

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/07/2020 01:32

My chimney breast is a different colour. Looks great so I don't care. Go for it

Wildernesstips · 10/07/2020 21:46

I think it depends on the way you dress your room - anything can look dated. I have a couple of rooms with feature walls and they are my favourite rooms.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/07/2020 21:49

You just do what you like.

I (personally) don't like the look of a chimney breast wall painted/papered a different colour. However, I do quite like the wall behind the sofa painted a different colour. So I suppose it is still a feature wall, it's just not the usual one.

Foxinsocks1 · 11/07/2020 08:57

I’ll see what it looks like I guess. I also like the wall behind the back of the sofa painted a different colour but it’s a very odd shaped room so that just won’t work in our house.

Who cares if its dated have what like 😊

Secondsop · 14/07/2020 00:29

Apparently they’re dated but just do what you like and whatever works for you - it’s your house! I’ve got a couple of wallpaper feature walls, and they’re single walls not the whole room for good reasons - one is behind the headboard in the bedroom so sort of frames that whole wall and the rest of the room is quite bitty with doors to ensuite and wardrobes so all-over wallpaper wouldn’t work. The other feature walls are in the playroom / family room and are a comic book pattern and the whole room in it would drive you mad. Personally I think a blanket “no to feature walls” rule is more dated than thinking about whether they might work well in the particular room.

Another one who says go with what you like!

I painted our chimney breast wall a dark red colour in our Edwardian house and love it.

We're just looking into feature walls for the chimney breast and the wall behind our TV (different rooms). Loving the sulking room pink. What would the equivalents be in blue and green?

ChangeOfName2020 · 17/07/2020 16:00

I papered a feature wall in both my living room and dining room.

Don't care if it's seen as dated. I love the paper and it brings me happiness every time I look at it.

It's your house that you live in. Have it however you want.

Splattherat · 17/07/2020 18:01

Ow I just came on to ask this question too OP but thinking for our bedroom. I would go for it.

The wall behind our headboard isn’t too good 1930’s semi. It currently has a white and greyage Laura Ashley paper on (see first photo of what is existing in the room) but I quite fancied going a bit mental with a bold paper possibly floral and quite possibly green see 2nd photo. I can’t quite see anything I love. Are these ones in photo 2 really bad taste I love the shade of the green one but thought maybe bolder flowers also if I went mad with paper mural choice not sure what colour to paint the other walls. What is your retro paper like @Pieceofpurplesky? My choices could be hideous I am shielding so have cabin fever and Teen DD driving me mad. Sorry for derailing your thread OP.

Copy sorry I meant to ask @GrimDamnFanjo what her retro wallpaper is like not pieceofpurplesky more haste less speed.

GrimDamnFanjo · 18/07/2020 00:50

Lol @Splattherat it's a version of Marion Mahlers Mobiles design with the yellow background. It was reprinted by Sanderson and I have 4 rolls bought via EBay. Not 100% I'll use them as I've only really had plain walls before.
