Wall mounted TV are fire

Lockdown has led to me redesigning my whole house in my head. I live in a newish build. Small square room. I'm thinking about wall mounting a TV and electric fire. What do you do with the wires? And what about the games consoles/sky box type of stuff? I've read some articles saying it's a bad idea to have a TV above a fire. Is that the case ofr rarely uses electric fires too?

to do it properly you would be chiselling the wires into the wall and plastering over them, and would have a discreet cupboard in the corner for all the boxes, consoles and players, with further wires chiselled into the wall for them to communicate with the tv.

heat rises, so a tv immediately above a fire will get heated above normal operating temperature. that will cause glitches and faults, you will need to replace the tv more frequently than otherwise.

an alternative possibility - consider just having the wall-mounted tv without the fire, but get one which can look like a fireplace showing a video image of flickering flames, and use underfloor heating instead.

I guess no fire is an option. I just really like having it although I hardly ever use it. I've got some time to think. Will be a while before I can get any work done anyway.

We are about to get this done in our lounge! We are having a fire and tv recessed. Sound bar. All the other boxes in another part of the room!

@pootle40 how did you feel about the advice not to due to the heat? I really want it and am trying to convince myself I'm not being silly to do it.

I hadn't thought about it to be honest. Our joiner has done these jobs before and they seem pretty popular so I don't think it's a big issue. I don't think we will use the fire that much. Our fire has various LED options as it's an electric one which can be on without the actual heat so I can see us using that and only on really cold nights using the fire. Quite excited about it all!

You can have the electric fire on without heat. I never use the heat setting on mine just the display.

Having the fire and TV both recessed would certainly make a difference - you can then have insulating material between the two rather than just hot air rising up to toast the underside of the TV.

What fire did you order? Just for nosiness.

We had our tv above the fire and we ended up getting constant headaches and neck aches because we were looking up all the time. We’ve moved ours down so that it is now infront of us.

It's a Gazco ereflex 135. Was never much of a fan of electric fires but I saw the video on YouTube and really liked it!
