New kitchen is being fitted soon but I have hit a stumbling block with flooring and wall colours. Kitchen is dove grey shaker style with oak worktops and brushed steel handles. No tiles only upstands, oven will be a range in the chimney breast with a very dark grey almost black splash back. House is a Victorian terrace so I want something in keeping with the age of the house but not old fashioned. There won't be much wall on show mainly the chimney breast around the range but what colour would you do?
And also flooring? I think we should go patterned tiles husband wants plain. I've spent hours in pinterest etc but still struggling. Any suggestions including links appreciated (we are on a budget so nothing too expensive that will make me sad that we can't afford it).
Thank you

Your kitchen sounds lovely. Have you any pictures of the patterned tiles you were thinking of? Everything else sounds quite neutral and plain so a pattern might be a welcome burst of visual interest.

But I’m going to contradict myself straight away and admit that my first thought, given the age and character of your home, was slate.

We have a very similar kitchen, but without the splash back. we have white walls and oak flooring, the same colour as the worktops.

We went for white walls just because we couldn't make a decision, but I love it and after 4 years it's due for a re-paint - I'm just going to go for white again.

I was thinking about keeping it simple with white walls and them adding splashes of colour with accessories (currently quite liking yellow so some pictures, a clock, tea towels etc in that).

I do like the idea of a slate floor. Will find pictures of the tiles we are getting samples of. Need to go and look at some in real life bit with 2 kids it is hard for us to go and look at things in shops together

Hopefully the images have attached. These are some of the patterned tiles I like. Have also sent for samples of various black and grey plain tiles too.
I did consider oak flooring but thought it might be too difficult to get a match to the work tops (getting laminate rather than real wood as I know I won't look after real wood well enough)
This is the first time I've ever done a kitchen I've always just made do with what was there and I am so worried about getting the finishing touches wrong and messing it up

Those tiles are nice! And white walls and yellow accessories sounds lovely.

I would second oak flooring - I have walnut tops and flooring and it looks very pulled together.
I would also second a black/grey/white period tile or a classic subway ( herringbone pattern if you want to look more up to date but I prefer classic subway) - for any painted areas, a muted classic colour would look good - maybe a faded chartreuse?
