Roof for my decking?

I have a decking area that we've never used much because it's always got bird poo on the furniture and loads of yew tree seeds rain down on you.
For the purposes of corona safety we've put a cheap gazebo on it so we can have cover to socialise and it's lovely.
I'm thinking of a more permanent carport style roof - can anyone advise what the best covering would be?
It would need to be on a slope and I'm not keen on corrugated plastic as I've seen so many tatty roofs made out of it although maybe that's because they're old?
Any advice or better still pictures would be great thank you - for once Pinterest is not coming up with much

You will need to check your measurements very carefully as I believe any roof over 2.5m above ground level (so the base of the decking) would need planning permission.

Would a retractable awning work?

Thanks, I'd prefer something permanent as I'd like to be able to leave the furniture out and not clean bird poo but I'll check the regulations as that's something I hadn't thought of
