What colour for fairly dark bedroom?

Hi all, I’m trying to decide what colour to paint our spare room. It’s east facing and quite long and narrow with the window at one end, so the light level is quite different at each end of the room. I wanted something to make it seem lighter/warmer and picked up some creamy toned yellow testers but they have come out looking quite sickly on the wall and I hate them! What colour should I pick instead?! If anyone has some pictures of what they’ve done in similar rooms that would be much appreciated Grin

Ideally I would like to be able to use the same colour in the master bedroom which we’re also going to decorate but it’s a very large, bright room so not sure if it will be possible to find something that works in both? (Reason being is that we will get the same flooring throughout upstairs so need both rooms to go with the same colour carpet)

I read that scientifically, aqua is the best colour for a dark room, something to do with the shadows not looking so dark

What are you planning to do with the spare room? Is it just a bedroom that guests will be staying for just a few days? Or is it a home office with a sofa bed? That will determine how you decorate it as much as the light levels. You can probably be more daring for a guest room than for a home office.

I'm struggling with the same dilemma in our sitting room which similarly faces east. The previous owners painted it various shades of yellow which I hate but it did actually work when it had their furniture in it. My default is pure brilliant white and that's what it will go, at least temporarily. However I also really love dark blue rooms and am very tempted to make it dark and library-ish (we have a playroom that faces west that is very bright and light so there is a contrast). Or pink might work in an east facing room to make it warmer.

I have quite a dark bedroom with dark furniture and used dulux ancient artefact. It’s lovely on, I’d embrace the dark. I’d also say whatever you paint it, paint it in matt. The flatter the better. Gives a perfect finish every time.

I'd embrace the darkness (unless it's going to be a sewing room). Bedrooms work with a dark scheme. In our one north facing bedroom (slightly NW) we've got a dark grey paper, grey velvet floor to ceiling curtains and a bright orange roman blind. It's a smallish room so I was going for womblike. I think my teenage son likes it.....same beige-y carpet throughout all the bedrooms.
