Curtain help please

Can anybody explain to me how curtain rails work please? Want to replace blinds with curtains but don’t know what dirt if curtain rail to get. Will need made to measure curtains which I’ve chosen from John Lewis. Does the rail gin on the ceiling or wall. Attaching picture. Have blinds in rest of house so can’t compare.

A curtain pole could go on the wall or the ceiling. You don’t have a lot of room over the window, but you could probably fit a curtain track (it’s like a strip of plastic).

Yup, either is fine, space+shape/style of real dictates your choice or lack of.

That really is a lovely view!! Will attempt to attach pic, apologies for how bad it is, cannot be bothered moving so long distance, dodgy angle! Central bit fixed to ceiling, unscrew end off pole to slide a curtain onto each side.

Thanks all. Yep, about to build an estate to spoil view from bottom floors but should still be ok from this window on top floor. Feel a bit stupid but rest of windows have blinds. Not got experience of curtains.

Better to ask than get it wrong. Don't do what I did the first time I was in charge of doing curtains and get material the right width for the window (carefully measured) only for the penny to drop a bit too late that if the curtain fabric is similar with to window they will be flat not played when drawn. Not a good luck. 😆

Curtains to go have a good measuring guide showing where to put poles and tracks and how to measure for curtains. Other rules are your curtains are usually twice the width of the window, as the previous poster has found out 😀
