Strutted headboard

I’m hoping someone could help me. I’m buying a new bed but my room is quite small so won’t fit a bed that comes attached with a headboard.

So my question is do strutted headboards add length to the bed? As they are just slotted into the back do they add length to the bed or do they kind of come over the bed? I hope I make sense

The struts are usually fixed to the back of the headboard and slot onto pegs on the divan, so shouldn't add to the overall length of the bed. The depth of the headboard will be over the bed.
