What's the best paint and do I need to sand it down first ?

I'm currently painting our caravan, I've emulsioned it with bog standard Matt white and then started doing the ceiling and some of the cupboards with eggshell today. I've not sanded and all seems ok at the moment.

I've painted furniture in the house with flat Matt emulsion and then a th8n layer of clear wax over it.

I'm not an expert but this has worked for me.

I've painted laminate furniture lots of times. I give it a good clean first, then a light sand, clean off again. When it's dry, give it a coat of primer -i use zinnser bin primer. Then two thin coats of eggshell paint. Leave it for as long as you can before you use it to let the paint cure.
