What colour curtains?

I’ve chosen a dark mauve paint for the guest bedroom walls (Zoffany Antiquary). The woodwork and fireplace will be white, and I’ll be putting plain white bedding on the dark wooden bed. The room will look very close to this photo.

I’m stuck on curtains. I’d like white, but they’d have to be good, thick blackout curtains not the flimsy voile type ones all over Pinterest. I can’t help thinking white would look odd in thick fabric?

The alternative would be charcoal grey. Maybe velvet.

It’s a bright, west facing room with a large window overlooking the garden.

What do you think?

What colour curtains?

Personally I'd have a pale yellow/mustard or a pale purple like lilac

Charcoal velvet would be lovely. Uf you want to stay paler what about a heavy linen in a colour similar to the walls or a white with a contrast stripe, heavy linen type fabric.

Heavy linen sounds nice. I did wonder about trying to match the same colour - I think that would like quite smart. Could be tricky to find though!

Not keen on mustard.

Oh I’ve just found some curtain material I love! It’s white with a black thistle print. I think this will brighten the room up enough for me to get away with the dark paint - I was having a wobble about it being too dark. But the white fitted wardrobe, white fireplace, white doors and white window frames will be enough to lift it, together with these curtains. I reckon.
