Luxury bedding

When we move I want to treat us to some top quality bedding. Really comfortable. I don't usually spend more than £50 on bedding but want something that looks like it's come out of a high end hotel and really comfortable too.

Let's pretend price doesn't matter at this stage! I like white bedding, natural choice was White Company but is the quality worth the price?

What thread count should I look out for?

Do I need a silk pillow case?!

White company savoy and silk pillows. Very expensive and I normally wouldn’t but such expensive bed linen, however after losing my baby in February I decided I deserved to splurge and they are a joy to get into every night. The only thing I look forward to all day anymore.

@Appuskidu linen doesn't, it's very on trend to just have it a bit wrinkled.

While we're kind of on the subject.Blush

I'm looking to get a new duvet. Not sure about either wool or silk. Does anyone have either and know if they are any good?

@Greentrees33 I'm sorry for your loss.Flowers

If money is no option, Frette makes amazing bedding. Not sure of the thread count, but it is cotton which feels like silk.

I have a silk duvet which I put on the bed in the winter. It is very heavy, and I prefer my goose down for the rest of the year.

@Mominatrix I have a 13 tog goose down for winter. I would have thought silk was a lot lighter. I'm really surprised to hear it's heavy. Is it nice and warm? Also, it doesn't make you sweat? I heard it helps regulate temperature.

Egyptian cotton for me. I don't think illl ever be able to go back. Got mine from JL and I LOVE it

GherkinsOnToast · 04/06/2020 13:28

The White Company - we got ours from the outlet store - it was my rare indulgence. I love getting into bed now - especially when it has dried on the line.

I buy 'hotel quality' after checking out labels in a top hotel.

also fitted sheets, pillow cases, pillows.

Thread count is shown.

I've always loved Sheridan bedding, the 600 sateen is lovely but everything I've had from them has been amazing.

EspressoX10 · 05/06/2020 07:18

katmarie I'm desperate for some good quality bamboo sheets for a super king (and maybe for the children's beds too).

Where did you get yours?

BF888 · 08/06/2020 23:20

White company are horrendous. It’s about the used more than thread count as another said don’t get too hung up on the number and focus on the material

justjessie · 08/06/2020 23:23

If you want luxury hotel style bedding try the Linea line called, ahem... luxury hotel collection. 1000tc. Lovely.

As for silk pillows, not all silk pillows are created equal. I forked out for a Slip brand pillowcase and it washes beautifully and is literally my favourite thing. I get so happy with it every night I tell DH how much I love it (I didn't fork out for one for him, a waste!)

nubeejinnings · 08/06/2020 23:36

Try groupon and brand alley for discounted good quality high TC bedding. IMO if you're used to ordinary bedding and jump to 400TC if feels like you're sleeping on silk anyway. If in doubt buy a pillowcase first to see how it feels. No need to go as high as 800TC but up to you.

Barkingfuckingdogs · 08/06/2020 23:38

My favourite is Fogerty soft touch from dunelm. Cheap n cheerful but honestly the best sheets you could wish for. Not what you asked for exactly but thought I'd chuck it into the mix anyway!!

Placemarking so I can come back and buy sone recommendations.

Great thread OP.

My husband introduced me to Dorma bedding (before that my bedding budget was £20 max!) I bought our last set 18 months ago which for a king size bed came to £120. It felt insane to spend that much on bedding but it is literally the softest bedwear I've ever experienced, whilst still being breathable (not silk-like) and I love zip fastenings as it means when I wash it I can automatically stop everything else in the machine piling into the duvet. (For anyone who just likes the zip fastening I think some IKEA bedding has zip fastenings too).
