What armchair to go with this sofa?

I have just taken delivery of this sofa today - an love it: www.argos.co.uk/product/8935782

I now need an armchair to go with it - the room is bare at the moment as I've just moved in and don't have any other living room furniture yet.

I was thinking either one of these but can't decide! Any thoughts?! Or alternatives to consider?

It is an old cottage with white walls and black beams, brick fireplace and mid-grey carpets, to give you a feel for the style of the room.

I'd go with the red, it needs some colour. Although....red and black and white be a bit 80s boy bedroom so possibly a different colour? I do like mustard though that is a bit too everywhere, so maybe a blue or green?

Aah! I clicked on the first and was very disappointed as I was hoping it would be bright, so there's your answer from me. Although honestly I don't like the style and would go for the squarer one, or even the "Alana" armless chair as more of a highlight...

Or this one maybe: www.argos.co.uk/product/8887562

It's to go in this space on the other side of the room, if a photo helps! I just can't visualise what would work, am so brain dead at the moment!

I want it to be an armchair that would be comfy for curling up in to read, rather than just as an occasional chair.

Definitely a wingback. The yellow one is the best out of the ones you've posted.

wheresmolly · 28/05/2020 21:26

@LokisLover I do like that Ikea one! The blue is nice too.

The Rochester armchair from M&S is nice and comes in different colours, or the Claudia or the Olson from made.com are both good looking.

wheresmolly · 28/05/2020 21:33

@ElizabethinherGermanGarden they're nice too but a bit out of my price range (max £250 probably) Confused

The IKEA one is comfy too

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 28/05/2020 21:34

Sorry, I didn't read your post properly- the ones you have linked to are great (and a very good price!) and I like the pink one best.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 28/05/2020 21:36

Cross-posted with you - I have been reading house magazines and daydreaming during lockdown. They're out of my price range too! But the ones you've found are lovely, so thank you!

wheresmolly · 28/05/2020 21:43

Any nice rectangular rug, side table and floor lamp suggestions also gratefully received! I am totally burnt out from moving (plus preceding break up Sad) and haven't had any time off from my busy job so I am wiped and can't think straight!

I came to recommend that Ikea one. We've got two, in grey, with the footstools. They're so, so comfortable. I love mine. You can't go wrong with them tbh

wheresmolly · 28/05/2020 21:51

Right so that's the chair sorted I think! Just need to work out what to add to the room as it's so sparse and is making me feel sad!

I'd say Dunelm and Ikea if you're on a budget.
I'm crap at putting things together so I copy them.
Also , for slightly unusual things (and chairs) try Homesense, , they have lovely stuff.

Iamagree · 28/05/2020 22:13

Too much grey? I love the mustard yellow (Ikea?) one, or the bright green from Argos....to relieve the overall "neutral" - then you could have rug/ cushions picking up subtly on the mustard or green ..

Iamagree · 28/05/2020 22:17

grey living room ideas an idea of the blend of charcoal and mustard?

CountFosco · 29/05/2020 21:24

I like the Argos yellow one best. At the moment the room is very grey and white and needs something else to balance it.

Our playroom had a perfectly good dark grey carpet when we moved in so I didn't really want to replace it. We painted the walls white and put in an orange sofa and had splashes of orange around the room: cushion, a light and the cord of the pendant light.

For your room I'd add a chair in one of these colours then reference it a couple of times elsewhere: mustard, pink (I'd actually be tempted to paint the walls a light pink and have the chair stronger pink/red), orange, green (again, you could have mint green walls and a darker or brighter green chair). And have a look on Vinterior for a mid century modern armchair so you have something more unique.

Thanks everyone for your input! I've ordered the yellow Argos one: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8887562

It's going to be delivered on Tuesday and I can't wait! Grin
