Having porcelain tiles laid in my kitchen, 60.5 by 30.5. Trying to decide which direction to lay them. Originally thought length ways, 1st diagram, but tiler suggested width ways, 2nd diagram, would make the room look bigger. What do you think?

Across (2nd pic) in my opinion to make room appear wider

Yep, it's a narrow room so lay it parallel to the shortest side to make the room wider.

Sorry I agree with the tiler too(pic2)!

2nd

I think all of you and the tiler are right. It's just hard when you've pictured it differently. The previous owners had tile pattern lino fitted and that went length ways.

You should go with the way the light comes from the window. So if you your window is at the bottom, then Pic1, if your window is on the right, then Pic2.

The windows are at the top and right.

Thanks for the advice. My DH and I agreed to ask the the tiler to fit them width ways as pic 2. Tiler arrived this morning, DH explained what we wanted. Just went to check on progress and he's fitting them length ways as pic 1. Miscommunication between tiler and DH, never mind, hope it still looks good when finished!
