Ds is 12 and currently plays xbox and watches tv in the living room. His bed needs replacing so We are thinking about what he will need in his Bedroom as he gets older. I am assuming that he will eventually move his Xbox and tv into his room. So do teen boys tend to have a desk for Xbox and a separate one for their homework? Where does the tv go? I really need help understanding about teenage boys !

My ds hasn't got his playstation in his room, but you could get a bed like this, and he could use the desk underneath for homework until you decide to move his xbox upstairs, and then use half the desk underneath for his xbox and half for homework.

My son has his monitor wall mounted with the desk below it. Then the x box and PC are on the floor to one side of the desk.

My DS has this desk from Ikea with a pullout panel www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/malm-desk-with-pull-out-panel-white-70214192/

He has his Xbox on the main desk and does his homework on the pullout (priorities 🙄)! However, do bear in mind if your DS is likely to get in a “Fifa rage” and bang his desk hard, it will indent.

Thank you so much. We are actually just getting rid of his mid sleeper as he’s too big for it. 5 foot 6 and only just 12...
I like that Ikea desk - pull out is a good idea as it won’t get covered in crap!

DS (10) has his TV on the wall and his PlayStation on top of his drawers next to it. It’s our old TV so it’s big and fills the width of the chimney breast. He has a desk but does his homework downstairs at the table.

My 12 year old has an Ikea desk, the tv is mounted on the wall just above it and the X Box is on the desk.

He uses the desk for homework too is big so plenty of space.

We bought one of those cube storage things from ikea and mounted it on castors under tv on wall so all games can be stored in baskets and playstation sits on top. He has a desk next to his bed.

Older boy went for the double storage option on castors and sat tv on top he puts xbox in extra cubes but has took it to GF house to self isolate. Cubes were good for storing school books n files etc too.

DS, 15, has his X box in the dining room as I won't let him have it in his bedroom..

He has a double bed in his bedroom and a pullout desk.

YaasssQueen · 26/05/2020 12:38

DS 15 has a projector instead of a TV, it worked out cheaper and means that we don't have to worry about where to put a screen. Plus much more easily portable!
this one

although we got it in a sale somewhere for nearly half that price. It's brilliant, we watched films on it the other night projected onto the living room ceiling and all lay on blankets etc! Might take it camping too.

His desk is wide enough to house xbox on as well as do homework.

Notsoprettywoman · 27/05/2020 23:03

Ikea is good we got a double width desk which fits tv and Xbox etc and also has drawers

nasalspray · 27/05/2020 23:09

Huge link sorry Blush

Meant to add it is solid, we have attached it to the wall for safety.

titchy · 27/05/2020 23:13

Careful with the console in the bedroom - he'll be up all night gaming.

Oh I think I love you! Now I can prove to my DS that he is not the only unfortunate soul that isn't allowed it in his bedroom Grin

You can set hours for the box. Ours doesnt work from an hour before bed until 7am. Its under settings and parental controls. They need your password to change. Or you can turn off the wifi in zones depending on your set up.

mudpiemaker · 28/05/2020 22:17

@manitobajane mine don't even have a tv in their bedroom.

They are 17 and 14 year old boys. They do have a den though where they have a desk each and a desktop gaming computer each. All gaming and homework is done in there.

Bedrooms are for sleeping in in this house. My friend let her son have his xbox in his bedroom. As she has an en-suite bathroom there is never a need for her to leave her bedroom in the night, however she had a headache and needed some meds that were downstairs. There was light coming from under her son' bedroom door, turns out he had been arranging to game with his mates from 1am, setting his alarm on his phone to wake him up Shock Sneaky.

Comefromaway · 29/05/2020 16:43

As the parent of a 16 year old boy please believe me when I say you will regret allowing an Xbox into the bedroom.

trickyex · 02/06/2020 22:48

XBox downstairs, wont allow it in bedrooms here....
