What would you do with this fireplace?

A few questions here. We don’t love our electric fire, but not in a position to replace it at the mo.

First, a basic question: how do I clean it (specifically the stone)? (Realise this probably seems like a silly question! 🙈)

Secondly, would love some ideas for pieces to decorate it? There’s also a mantelpiece above (which can’t be seen in pic), above which is a large, ornate gold mirror.

Thanks in advance!

I like how it's so fresh looking and uncluttered. I wouldn't want too much stuff taking away from that effect.
How about some natural shapes, like some dried grasses in a slim vase or jug to one side? And on the other side a contrasting natural shape. A big shell?

Thanks Brandora - I really like your ideas!

Plain white or cream candles, or faux candles in those big hurricane vases.

Or put candles in big glass vases surrounded with polished stones or pebbles. These would look lovely next to that natural stone.

I think my grass and shell ideas might look a bit 70s! But I don't do trendy when it comes to home stuff. I want to keep stuff for ages once I've gone to the trouble of doing it to the house! I still think natural shapes for that lovely stone though. Maybe some interesting stones and pebbles and something like a colourful wooden cactus 🌵 or something? And candles in lanterns.
In my head this looks great 😂
